I've been gone for a while... in fact, I left quite a while before overheating and the new graphics engine. So I'm a bit out of the loop.
Now I've seen the videos on youtube of station "ambulation", and I'm a bit confused. What is the point of ambulation exactly?
I'll admit that I'm primarily a PVPer, though I do enjoy my industrial alt. (I tend to enjoy multiple facets of the game with my two characters.) So, the things I tend to want: - More ships to fly - More ships to lose/blow up - More diverse roles of ships, while maintaining balance - More things to manufacture - More things to explore (I'd like to see missions become more complex, not so easy to memorize, etc.)
So I really don't understand ambulation.
Is it for exploration? If it's anything like missions or the existing station graphics, they'll be duplicated across everywhere?
What is the function? Will there be something that can be done in the new feature that can't be done otherwise? I can only hope that it won't become counterstrike-in-station, because well... I can't play Counterstrike/Halo, WOW, WAR, etc because my left hand is too screwed.
So yeah, fill me in - what's going on with ambulation, exactly?
Also: are there going to be 4 station setups? I'd almost like to see more star backdrops and more station environments first :) I love the new engine, for instance, but... I really miss the old Gallente station graphic.
So fill me in, guys. This is not a troll. Promise.

It's just for social interaction, to expand the way you look at EvE. EvE isn't just a space game, there's vast storyline behind it. They want you to get in touch with other people and being able experience a step out of the Pod. __________________ "People die when they are killed."

It's to give EVE more depth for those who want to dive deeper into it.

I know it has a storyline, in fact I enjoyed the novel and the short stories on this site.
But... I can get in touch with people in channels, and with my guns
No, but in all seriousness, this isn't going to turn into "running around in a station with knives backstabbing people", right?

I doubt you will be able to do anything that extreme when it hits. But my guess is that it will mostly just be you walking, talking, and using emotes while maybe interacting with the environment in some ways maybe.
It's completely optional so for intense players they don't have to take part in the feature if they don't want to. But let's say you're one of the many people who just set skills and chat on some days, Ambulation will allow a little more 'fun' for those who don't want to undock.
My concern is how long will it last, after awhile it would seem to get old, to me, anyway. __________________ "People die when they are killed."

Because they were doing it anyway for another game they are working on so they decided to practice on eve first. Because it would be neat.

don't worry it won't be about killing people, however a few devs have talked about putting non-lethal combat into ambulation.
Also you'll be able to play poker :D a drink!
basicly it's for roleplay with some small gameplay added that is 100% optional and won't get in the way of eve at all.
Also to the person saying people will get tired of it. It's the as when eve started, it's barebones and won't be perfect, but it will be expanded and such and it will be interesting to new players.

It will make Eve one of the best all encompassing games out there. Plus, I want to see the strippers they are promising. I think they should go further, and make each station have malls... to buy stuff. Perhaps 100 stores in each station. A whole NEW market! ... full of interesting things to was isk on.

As far as I understand, Ambulation has three purposes/goals.
1) Ambulation in EVE is a testbed (working out the bugs) for the ambulation engine in CCP/WhiteWolf's upcoming MMO about emo vampires, World Of Darkness.
2) Ambulation is intended to enhance the sociability aspect of the game. Apparently many MMO players are turned off by the fact that in EVE, they are represented by a disposable ship and not a 'person' (aside from a portrait avatar), and it's hoped that giving the option of a lifelike walking human avatar may attract those players. Also, people will be able to meet and gather in-station... such as in a corporate war room, personal quarters, a bar, a casino, et cetera.
3) Ambulation is supposed to be an ISK sink. Spending money on buying fancy pixel clothing, virtual drinks for your virtual persona, losing money at the casino tables, so on and so forth.

Excellent.

It wont be like that ofcource, but then, in a way I feel it should be like that. Because the carebears have chosen the soft, fluffy way and needs lots of pampering , while the though and vile piwates have all chosen the spartan (I am spartacus!), lawless and the vile way, which leads to being isolated from any civilized society.
Besides that, Ambulation looks great!!! A new way of socializing plus a new platform to build a game upon including the space platform, it simply fantastic, and opens for huge posibilities for the future!

Not everything is. POS fuel, office / lab / factory rental are ISK sinks. The same will probably go for Ambulation.
I'm looking forward to it. It has great potential to turn into something awesome.

Ahh - ambulation.
Look, putting 3D models into a game is very easy these days. It would be lame for CCP NOT to do it. I think it's just keeping up with the times.
It would be very funny however, if two rats were take take their fight "inside" so to speak, and see a space battle end up in a brawl in-station. Major yarrfest. I wonder if, given melee allowed, that could be a new track. So you get your ship busted and you still have a chance to meet the opponent in the bar or would that be "promenade" or is my Trek showing? and pummel him.
This could finally answer the question: "Are we naked in those pods?"

If for nothing else.... ambulation = special ambulation servers = ppl docked and in ambulation won't hog system resources from ppl actually in space.
There's only one sig that matters... and that's Radius. |

Edited by: Chris Liath on 05/10/2008 12:19:37 Listen... You're one of the ridiculously few of an entire frakin' galaxy who's able to use the capsule interface. You're demigods walking next to mortals. (Well, they wont be allowed up in the fancy parts of the station where you are) You have technology available at your fingertips, that are not even close to being on the market or even remotely close to being available to other mortals. Completely fresh pod pilots quickly have the buying power of small states, while a veteran player could own an entire system if he wishes to. There's 6000 souls working solely for you in just a single battleship, several tens of thousands in a single station just to provide you with the services you need, millions behind the industrial machine needed to just manufacture a regular spacefaring vessel. There's an entire city inside a titan, and we hear about those blowing up several times a year. You are the very string that ties mankind together.
Why would you NOT want to experience such a lifestyle?
And we really shouldn't be worried with the WoW-gearish competition (Fanciest clothes, so on). Seeing as you can get a 70 meter long frigate made of state of the art materials like crystalline carbonide, has a freaking fusion core and ion pulse thrusters, guns that are 20 meter long and drones the size of a small apartment for a mere 75 000 isk, a couple of thousand isk should let you buy the entire store.
"Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic. |

This will just add more flame tards to the game, soon they will build stormwind and you can take your clothes off, fascinating 12year olds with your super cyber sexy body...

I'm sure it could be made so that the stuff in ambulation is made by players. Just introduce hunting and gathering grounds, where you can gather skins and resources. Maybe even some NPC's to guide you by giving you "quests", in where you learn how to craft and gather materials. Wouldn't that be neat?

i just hope that the corps/alliances actually use the corp war room thingy.. i mean.. even if it's only the big wigs sitting down and using the facilities.. i just hope it's got enough utility to actually be used.. because, In my experience, that shit is gonna get skipped by most of the corps out in 0.0
