Lets say something horrible happen like: EVE server completely destroyed and no back up to speak of.
Assuming CCP will put everything in a new server, and go through the same patches chronologically. to keep balance and the feel of ascension we had.
would you play the game again? You know, from scratch.
I personally would have to flip a coin, and would probably not. It will be like a sign to quit.

You'd just get frigates costing 100 million each. Supply and demand.

I would actually love if they did that. Being an old-timer in the game, I remember a LOT of the ways to make money that has now been removed. That would give me a head start for one. And the knowledge I have of the game as a whole, would be a lot of help too.
Unfortunatly most of the good money-making ways have been called exploit and would probably still be that, even if the gamemechanics in the different patches allowed for them. That would of course be a problem, but overall, I would still enjoy it, knowing that everyone else was in the same boat as me. The rookie ship

Like the folks above, I'd start from scratch if it meant not having to re-learn the learning skills.
PvP would be a whole lot more fun in the beginning I bet. __________

I'd hate to have to just go from RMR to EA again, let alone go through the versions of the game that existed before I signed up. I mean I'd hate to do it, but I would do it.
But if a situation actually happened and CCP had to start the game and every character over from scratch, I'd hope they at least offer the playerbase some way of voting on the issue of what version of the game to reinstall, assuming they didn't just do the logical thing and restart it with the EA version.

CCP would have to be the utterly least compatant video game company in the history of MMOs to perminently lose EVE's info without backups. I think being that horrible and incompetant would make me rethink EVE a whole lot more then actually restarting from scratch. _______________

It's a completely hypothetical situation with a near-zero chance of actually happening, I'm sure we can all agree. However, the OP didn't ask how likely it was to happen, he asked what would you do if it did.

Yes. I've always wondered what it would be like to play eve when it was still empty and full of wonder and competition.

As this has been the one MMO I have continued to pay for over 5 years, I would absolutely start over. It would be interesting yet challenging to say the least.

I don't know, nuclear strike/suicide bombing/tsunami/sabotage to server and back up.

OP if you are going to raise hypothetical questions, how about:-
Do you think you would enjoy EVE more if they hadn't shipped off all the decent developers to make another game whilst fobbing us off with shiny crap like ambulation and new skins?

Of course, because then I would be at the same skill level as everyone else! But it's not very fair to the players that have been playing for YEARS. So I hope it doesn't happen.
But yes, I would keep playing. EvE is the only MMO I seem to like. __________________ "People die when they are killed."

No, I wouldn't.
I'd make a real character, not train a bunch of ancillary skills, waste my time doing POS crap etc. I'd also have fun from day 3 instead of month 5 (learning skills should be deleted).
In short, it would be a totally new game.
There still isn't anything that fills Eve's niche. Until then, Eve is my game, no question.

EVE without Capfleet online?
Tempting. At least for the first few months.
However, as I have done more in EVE than I ever wanted to do, and I hang around now for the companionship of my buds more than to play the game, Probably I'd try to convince them all to move on to something different.
Basically something less CCP. ------- CEO of Maids. No I didn't pick the name. I've grown rather fond of it though.

Ahhhh, to be able to start over and disregard all those skills you wasted time training. All those times you trained for the latest addition, only to have it nerfed from under you. All those, now useless, ships that you spent days waiting to fly, only to find that the latest patch made them far less useful than the one you originally flew. All those mods you waited to use, only to have them nerfed as well.
With that insight, we would never have those ships and mods in the game because nobody would bother training for them. -- There's a simple difference between kinky and perverted. Kinky is using a feather to get her in the mood. Perverted is using the whole chicken. |

I play EVE for the content. No other MMO has a similar economical and political structure, and no other game has a profession system that is as intricate as EVE.
Would I play it if I lost everything? Hell yah.
What I'm worried about is the day EVE dies and I find every other MMO boring. Because, while I have 4 accounts in EVE atm, I have a couple of others in other MMO's, and frankly while they do some things good.. I keep getting annoyed at the simplistic profession/economical system, and complete lack of politics.
Short version; Hell yah I would.

I don't even play eve anymore. Last year i only played during august when i joined ff, than went 2 months without, came back to help with delve, than in may i stopped playing again, and didn't even train skills until October. reason being is i find eve too crowded, and not much is advancing.
they could ve made the game better by not complicating so much new features, instead they do like exploration for instance. and never looked at the real problems, like lack of tactics in eve, i mean its not tactic less. But nothing like a naval battle on earth, I just don't find battle strategy challenging enogh, instead logistical and conquest is more important to the devs here, which makes this game more for civilization 4, than Rome total war.
anyhow, I don't want people to agree or whatever, its just the way i feel about eve. A boreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee for old players that dont like to be mining, building, doing the same fleet battles to take down poses every time.
I remember how i looked so forward to pos, than realized that the stupid thing has shields. and it goes on invulnerable mode? wtF? how can u people live with this shit. ever seen a space game do that?
darn thing about eve is its so far up in the future, that they can make up just about any stupid idea they want, like a million tonne Junk of metal going at 5000m/s One of the reasons i played eve for so long, is mainly the friends and community.
