Financially BoB doesn't need fountain, they're already wallowing in it and gaining a hoard up north while handing an old grudge and sorting out a strategically much more dangerous foe (due to numbers, wealth and location...certainly not skill). Thinking like BoB was a mistake û my test scores dropped, and I spent all my time thinking about homoerotic fantasies & ingame cheating (sorry I couldnÆt resist :< ) IÆve come to the conclusion that BoB considers PL æs presence in fountain to be to their benefit. So, from BoBÆs POV, what are the upsides to this arrangement? 1. TheyÆre a stable neighbor. In this, they are like FIX. 2.TheyÆre not FIX. i.e, theyÆre not completely incapable of defending themselves. BoB doesnÆt have to come running every time someone so much as sneezes at them. 3.Did I mention theyÆre not FIX? 4.TheyÆre hostile to BoB, and highly skilled PVPers. However, they lack the numbers to be a serious threat to BoBÆs territory. This means roaming gangs can go both ways for some interesting fights, but BoB wonÆt have to worry about PL WTFBBQing delveÆs sovereignty why theyÆre away from home. 5.TheyÆre small. Imagine if an alliance like AAA held all the moons in Fountain. It would allow them to produce many more caps/supercaps etc. Do you really want to give a juggernaut like AAA that kind of income? Same goes for goonswarm etc; you donÆt want to give serious competitors an advantage like that. 6.A lot of the entities that would wipe out any BoB pet they installed there wonÆt attack PL. For this exercise, we will play make believe. Imagine if you will, a BoB pet alliance. WeÆll call them FIX 2.0. Now imagine that BoB is away from home û weÆll say theyÆre in the north. Uh oh, [insert former coalition member here] has decided to make a move on FIX 2.0Æs space! Daddy BoB isnÆt going to be pleased by this. TheyÆve got to run back home, leaving their enjoyable conquest far behind, and save another inept pet. Does anyone here honestly think any BoB pet could stand up to TCF/Goons/AAA/etc without BoBÆs help? Shit, weÆre playing make believe, and no matter how hard I try, I canÆt picture it even in my wildest fantasies. The shorter version of this point is that most of the entities that would enjoy wiping a BoB pet out (coalition members) have good relations with PL. Any BoB pet not capable of survival isnÆt going to last long in one of the richest regions in EVEà 7.Amusement/drama factor. PL is like a mini super power now. It wonÆt be long before PL will have more titans than pilots to fly them. TheyÆre already pas the point where they need ammo, they can just fling buckets full of ISK at hostiles. PL actually have a few decent forum posters, and are generally pretty entertaining to watch in and out of game. 8.Some PL members are pretty hot. Seriously, IÆm not gay or anything, but I would do them. So, the downsides. 1.Dyspro moons in someone elseÆs hands. Personally, this thought is nearly enough to bring me to tears. While hard for me to imagine, itÆs possible not everyone is as greedy as me. 2.Want dyspro moons? You have to take them. Probably not very hard for BoB û their massive cap fleet would be hard for PL to stop. If it came down to a territorial fight, I expect BoB would steam roll PL. The pesky thing about moons, though, is that to keep getting income from them you have to hold them. No problem, you say û usually when you take all of an allianceÆs space, they failure cascade and run to empire. Howeverà PL are the guys that based out of NPC stations in delve just to shoot BoB. TheyÆre not going to failure cascade if you take their space. And, as they have demonstrated in the past, they have two very important attributes relevant to this point: they have determination, and they like shooting BoB. (contd...) It boils down to this: BoB can take fountain, but PL wonÆt leave, and PL wonÆt make holding it easy. What would BoB rather do: invade the north and take out the largest power bloc in the game, or spend the next six months camping fountain to keep PL from popping their towers? If they had chosen fountain over the NC, how many mothership/titan/cap kills would they have gotten? Choosing isk over fun probably wouldnÆt sit well with BoB members. Look at it from a PR standpoint: ôHay, whatÆs BoB up to nowadays?ö ôI hear theyÆre in fountain, trying to keep a 600 man alliance from taking their moonsàö 3.Even without PL in the picture, holding it could be problematic. Due to logistics, holding vast amounts of space makes it kinda hard to defend. If you can install pets capable of holding the space, youÆre goodà but anyone remember a BoB pet capable of holding its own? No? Anyone remember what happened when BoB controlled a huge amount of space and someone got it into their head to take it? I think the current MAX campaign reflects BoBÆs acknowledgement that holding vast swathes of space may not be a good idea. Of course, this is all just speculation.
