Here is something that I thought of when I should have been working.......
Implement some sort of 'learning drug'. Maybe as an agent reward or something like that. When taken it stimulates the character into fantastic feats of learning, giving a bonus number of skill points to the skill currently in training. The drug is used up but the effects are permanent. It's an alternative from flying around with 100Mil of implants stuck in your head.
Now there has to be a down side to this. I suggest that the drugs have a percentage chance to cause permanent mental damage. This would be represented as a permanent loss of a point of either Intellegence or Memory. The more times you use the drugs the higher the percentage chance of the negative effect.
So a cheaper, one shot alternative to implants but with quite a serious permanent downside if used too much. Enables you to reduce the training time of that big lvl 5 skill you want so much but used too often will hamper the training of your other skills.
What do you think?

They're already in development, called Boosters, which temporarily boost your attributes. They're supposed to be coming with the Black Market. (Shiva?)

I think drugs is an emotive word. I was using it in the contect of a medical supplimet much the same as I consider a painkiller or cough medicine to be a 'drug'. Perhaps they should be called something else but the idea is sound even if the wording is not to your liking.
Lets face it if some idiot decides to remove his motherboard and stick it in his head because he beleives in 'implants' are we to remove them from the game? Oh and shooting people is considered a bit of a problem in real life so lets get rid of the guns too.
