No, this one is about the money system and explains how debt is just modern slavery. Its actually hard to disagree with the movie. We all run the hamster wheel because thats the way the "world works" today. We have to.
Alright, in b4 the 4 page heated thread about economics and the value of the dollar

Not gonna get into details, but i like zeitgeist, saves u reading on things. Sides things that they say are either facts or wrong, i just cannot prove otherwise. Since i am not a ****y person, i just sit there as a neutral. but an enjoyable watch as always.

Edited by: Rialtor on 06/10/2008 23:05:52 Like the original, starts off with some facts, and then starts a diatribe of nonsense.
When they try to deconstruct capitalism they ignore the point of it and try to reduce it just to profit and competition, but they look at each in a vacuum and not together. It's hard in a free market to achieve a monopoly of an industry in order to price fix as they're talking about in the movie.
Project venus? common. Not everything will always be abundant so you'll always need a form of currency. Central planning of resource allocation is called socialism. A body that controls resources will be just as corruptible as any other government. What if you can only produce x amount of resource y for z amount of people where x < z. Who determines who gets what? Currency helps in this situation.
The short sightedness of the documentary is outstanding. They're talking about creating machines just as complicated as we are to replace the manufacturing and tedious jobs. For machines to completely replace us as the workforce they have to be just as intelligent as we are, and since we ourselves are just machines, that would be another form of slavery. So at some point we still need jobs because at some point it would be unethical to command a machine to do a job.
The only instrument that is virtually incorruptible is the free market. You can't have a body allocates all resources, that's becomes a totalitarian government.

Putting religious debate aside to stand in line with this forum's rules. I quite liked how they presented the economic structure, and its not revealing a hidden truth, by far; They simply explained it, and its the way it is, hence Credit Crunch.
Why else wouldn't they wanna destroy capitalism? Its a poor state of affairs, i would manipulate the truth to achieve that, so have so many with their lives. No such things as a free market. How many people in your class go on to be int he ruling elite? Not in a private school? = None.
Project Venus is achievable, You need to look at the worldwide resources manifest, I could email you this years PDF. According to theory its more than abundant enough, But the problem lies with luxury goods. Such as who eats caviar? Currency will exist in the Venus project, there just won't be in the central bank system, and more in the Andrew Johnson agenda. Frankly the world could be one, and more technologically advances, but each ruling party won t let go. So thats why we are all in prison: EARTH
As to machines, The technology exists. Seriously you don't need a Pentium 1 to clean or mop the floor. ITs just that everything has to be designed differently to accommodate them in our lives. I didn't understand what he was barking about a road that can swerve you and all, never heard such technology. but i cant hate what i never saw.
end of the day, i would rather go back to monarchy. If anyone could pull this off, its Alexander the great. wish we had a guy like him.

They're really speaking in fantasy and fallacy. Even the examples they used for abundance is wrong. so what water is most of the world's surface. But even that is not free, it's provided via a service that is paid for through tax dollars. Even if something is abundant there's still a great deal of work that goes into extracting that resource and providing it to others. Also maintenance of the system has a value as well. Everything is not about natural resources.
Currency offers a means to which to pay for something without bartering for it. The structure they call for can't exist without a government allocating resources. At some point you need a notion of currency. And you need some kind of monetary system. Just as you need some form of government. The key is to find a suitable role of government where it's easy to change and weed out corruption. If government gets too big, then the problems associated with government gets larger as well.
In the society they call for they need some form of government that controls all the world's resources. That government has a say over what it means by "intelligent" allocation. It's a fallacy, that system would and could never work.

No system is failproof. But to be honest with you, I wish i was born earlier, in a time of conquest/exploration & war. It would ve been more fun that this boring world.

"Only a crisis, actual or perceived, produces real change. And when the crisis occurs, the change depends on the ideas that are lying around." Milton Friedman
"The modern banking system manufactures money out of nothing. The process is perhaps the most astounding piece of sleight of hand that was ever invented" Sir Josiah Stamp (Director of the Bank of England 1928-1941)
"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armiesą If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks]ą will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conqueredą The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." - Thomas Jefferson, The Debate Over The Recharter Of The Bank Bill, 1809
"We are grateful to The Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during those years. But, the work is now much more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries." - David Rockefeller, founder of the Trilateral Commission, in an address to a meeting of The Trilateral Commission, in June, 1991.
This sequel cover some very important issues. The greatest threat to humanity are indeed 'financial terrorism'. It's modern day slavery and silent 'mass murder' of third world countries. Hyperinflation and the coming collapse of the dollar will give Americans a reality check if the current congress dont have the courage to make monetary reforms. In short, change it or lose it. Sometimes 'bad things' need to happen before positive things can occur and that apply to the collapse of the dollar. Chaos only occurs when there are no system to replace it. You cant be ignorant and free. Americans have to be INFORMED and understand how the monetary system WORKS. This is about re-education and revolution of thoughts, not armed revolution.
Personal, I have no doubt in my mind that we are seeing the beginning of a new era in austrian economics.
Movies: Money, Banking and the Federal Reserve (by http://mises.org/ and austrian economics. Ron Paul has been reading austrian economics for 30 years http://www.ronpaullibrary.org/) Fiat Empire The Money Master Money As Debt David Walker; US Government Immorality Will Lead to Bankruptcy
Books/website: Web Of Debt The creature from Jekyll Island The Shock Doctrine Confessions of an economic hitman (interview) America's Total Debt Report Government + Private Sector: $53 trillions excluding the goverments un-funded liabilities in Medicare/Medicaid/Social Security (current estimated at $100+ trillions) |
