Hi,
How do I know if my ship is being scanned? Are there any ways to prevent it or make it more difficult?

It won't turn red as the act of scanning isn't an overtly offensive action. If you see this, then it's almost a guarantee you've been scanned.
However, there's a module called a passive targeter, which means they can target you without you ever knowing. So unless you're quick in and out of gates, you can assume someone's scanned you somewhere along the way.
Edit: No - there's not much you can do to prevent it. You could fly a Covert Ops or an interceptor to vastly reduce the chances. Warping to zero and getting into warp quickly will certainly help. ______________________ Isn't it time you learned to fight back? Agony Unleashed Home of the PvP University.

^ This if you meant using the ship scanner or cargo scanner modules on you. If you meant using the long range scanner or probe, the only way is to cloak.

Well, if he did mean being probed down, then you can unselect "use overview settings" on your scanner window, set to 360 degrees, maximum range and the usefully accurate probes will show up on scan telling you someone is trying.
You can warp repeatedly through a large set of safe spots to really annoy probers as well as cloaking.

Good point - hadn't thought of that. I generally refer to that as being 'probed', and use the phrase 'scanned' for cargo/ship scanners, but other people will have different ideas on this.
If they're using the on-board scanner - you won't know.
If they're using scan probes, you can use your own on-board scanner and detect the probes in space (if they're in range) - as stated above. If they're not in range, then they're likely going to have to get closer and drop a shorter range/higher accuracy probe - but not always.
