How to outfit an indy? (Bestower or Iteron V)
Last time I played it was easy - lots of cargo expanders and 4 or more afterburners. Now I cannot fit even one afterburner - so besides cargo expanders, just what do I put into an indy? (Bestower or Iteron V)

For indy's your low slots are the important ones.
Fit Cargo Expanders if you need capacity.
Fit Nanofiber Structures or Inertial Stabailizer if you need speed.
With Warp-To-Zero, there is comparitively little use in fitting AB or MWD to any sort of hauler.
You could possibly use the mid slots to fit a weak tank if you think that might be useful. However, in most cases it won't matter what tank you have fitted.

Here's how I do it ... no guarantee that this is best. I've got an Iteron IV but no V and a bunch of Bestowers.
Since I am either going to have 4 WCS in my lows or 4 Expanded Cargo Holds - all my industrials are by default Shield Tankers.
I put on some combination of:
mid slots vary with my characters abilities and the resulting PG & CPU of the ship.
a 10MN afterburner - which you should not have any trouble with. A medium or two small Shield Extenders A Medium or small Shield Booster An Invulerabilty Shield hardener
High slots, some combination of:
1 miner 1 Salvager 1 tractor beam
If I'm hauling for someone in a mining barge in .9 or 1.0 space it's a miner and a salvager (I'm just not taking it off) If I'm hauling for someone in a mining barge in .8 or below space it's a salvager and a tractor beam. If I'm hauling to some base a few jumps away it's the salvager and whatever I choose to leave in the other slot
I sometimes mount a weapon but mostly not. If I get attacked my ability to survive is going to be determined by either lasting until Concord saves me or warping out. Besides, if I don't shoot back - I get kill rights on the guy - and may find him when he's in an industrial and I'm not ...
Now, since they are both cap burners, I usually don't fit both the Invulnerability and Shield Booster.
Essentially, the concept is to buff my shields as much as I can then boost them or strengthen them.
In addition to this I get all my shield skills trained up. Shield Management, Shield Operation, Shield Upgrades, Shield Compensation as well as Energy Management, Energy Systems Operation but I also train my Mechanic skills up to strengthen my armor and hull. There are also the EM, Explosive, Kinetic & Thermal Skills you can train for Mechanic and Engineering but these depend on what type of hardeners you're using as to how much you're going to get out of them.
The end result of all this is that I've got natural armor tankers who end up training a lot of shield tanking skills to support their industrials but also have to train the armor tanking skills for their combat ships.
As to not fitting an AB or MWD ... that works well if all you are doing is warping or jumping from place to place. However, if you are trying to get anywhere once you get there the AB or MWD comes in pretty handy. Say I'm warping back from a delivery and spot a wreck I want to salvage - having that AB makes it a lot easier to get to. If I'm supporting a mining barge and have to move around in the belt some, the AB comes in handy there. So, it depends on what you are doing. Faction Schools Orbiting vs. Kiting |

With warp-to-zero, there's no need for afterburners, so I typically fit this way:
Low Slots: Cargo Expanders, or Damage Control and Warp Core Stabilizers Med Slots: As many Medium Shield Extenders as I have grid for, rest Shield Hardeners (EM, Thermal) High Slot(s): Cloaking Device
The thing is, a battlecruiser can suicide-gank any indy in one salvo, pretty much, so don't carry too much in it. Most high-traffic systems are camped nowadays, with scouts that will stealth-scan your cargo and give advanced warning that you're coming, and hauler alts waiting on standby near the suicide-ganker.

What would be the cheapest ship capable of reasonably surviving a "normal" suicide ganker with good cargo space?

Edited by: Gerry TheViking on 09/10/2008 10:39:21 I use the high-slots for a Salvager and a Tractorbeam which is great for hauling. In the mid-slots go Shield boosters, rechargers and extenders for defense. In the low-slots I use expanded cargoholds II as well as rigs ( 3 cargohold optimization I). This will bring the Bestower up to a little more then 24.000 cargospace. If you want to use cargorigs I advice to use an Impel instead of a Bestower. The Impel is the better ship. The Impel only has one high-slot so you have to decide between a Tractorbeam and a Salvager but the Impel is faster and has better armor. The Impel also has 7 lowslots where you can fit expanded-cargoholds II which will give you 27.300 M¦ cargospace. With two rigs (cargohold optimization I) you will get more then 36.000 M¦ cargo and astonishing 46.000 M¦ cargo if you use giant secure containers. Please observer that the Impel only needs two rigs instead of 3 with the Bestower. Even Tech I rigs are very expensive. With the ISK you saved for the 3rd rig you can buy the skill for Transport ships to fly the Impel)
