Anyone else tried running EVE, classic or premium, on VMware? I tried myself, but found the game unplayable (at least in classic) due to certain graphics not loading or loading weirdlyùfor instance, things like game avatars and textures often had a purple hue, and engine graphics were constantly on despite the ship being stationary. There did not seem to be a performance hit however.
Supposedly Fusion has better DirectX support than Parallelsùand to that extent it does, since the login page on Parallels for me isn't even usable. Fusion could get me into the game at least. Anyone else had more luck with it than me?
(That said, I have been using it to run EVEMon and EFT simultaneously with the Mac Client, with a minimal performance hit, so that's pretty good.)

I have the exact same issue with VMWare Fusion as you do. It seems to be a problem in their 3D implementation. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

I have tried using Virtualbox to try and play the premium client and it just wouldn't run.

VMWare fusion's support for DirectX 9 is experimental as of V1.1 and doesn't support shaders. In Fusion 2, it supports DX 9.0dc with Shader Model 2 See http://www.vmware.com/support/fusion2/doc/releasenotes_fusion.html for more info.

I seem to recall I tried this recently with VMFusion 2 and while they finally have DX9 support, which means you can run EVE, it won't run with premium content.
At least, I don't recall it working with that (I had tried it the day VMWare released 2x).

Correct. Premium requires SM3 (DX9c) support, Fusion 2 only supports SM2. |

So does this mean that EVE classic runs fine under VMWare 2? Until you get yourself as empty and meaningless, you cannot truly know anything. Because, all things known are not [simply] known, but are known-to-some-end. |

it runs, but not "fine" the official mac client is still at least slightly better in fps. and on fusion the colors are messed up with blue and pinkish light effects. |

It seems to run fine on my system under VMWare. I have a fairly beefy 2.8ghz 8-core system with an nvidia 8800 and 16gb of ram though, so I can configure vmware to use a lot of resources. Presumably if you have at least a couple gigs of ram free, it should work on any desktop. Possibly even a non nvidia macbook pro (I haven't tried on mine).
If I'm going to run the non-premium client, I'd rather run it directly on OSX, but since the latest patch that has proved more unstable than ever before (crashing many times per hour) so I've resorted to doing it through VMWare for now instead of having to use bootcamp. |

What are you getting for a framerate, and are you seeing any graphical oddities? ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |
