My corp is fairly new to EVE, mostly older players and we recently discovered GTC's.
We looked on the EVE forums for approved sellers and found shattered crystal, we read the testimonials and being very wary of buying anything online we decided to make a small purchase to see how it went.
First transaction went without a hitch, so the rest of the corp decided to get our CEO to purchase theirs as well...however, the second purchase did not, after depositing the money (through paypal) they then asked for photo ID and proof of address which seemed extremely odd to us.
Since this was paid through paypal there is absolutely no reason we can think of to ask for this infomation, we find this extremely concerning that EVE would approve a seller asking for this type of infomation.
After a bit of to and fro we asked for a refund which they said yes to, however this could take up to ten days, we have heard of a few people having problems with shattered crystal, but most said they were ok...but for a company to ask for specific infomation of this nature over the internet is very disturbing, especially when approved by EVE.
Is there something we are missing here ? we are pretty easy going guys and dont think weare being paranoid at all...is there any other reputable company for GTC's you would recommend ?

I suggest BattleClinic- they've always been very good for my needs, which admittedly aren't much; but they're fast and easy to use. And they don't call you or request copies of your drivers license.

I went with shatterd chrystal. Good stuff and quick.
Some chick called me on the phone asking me question about where I live... Honestly WTF. I'm a computer nerd who doesnt like sports... the **** if I know about sports and sports arenas and such.

Never had a prob with S.C.,.. they've called once or twice to ask those security related questions, which was fine by me. I've done biz with them at least a half dozen times. Always fast service, but I'm sure the others get to you quickly as well.

have only good things to say about shatered crystal.. I also got the girl calling me the first time and she barely knew hello in english, was a rather interesting conversation with a lot of hum's and what's 
after that i usualy get the code on mail the moment i push buy
Edit: there is a limit for how manny codes you can buy in the start so if you buy 10 codes the first time they will be a bit suspicious

I have no idea what you mean, I bought from them twice and it went FANTASTICLLY. The first time she called and asked me about what lake was nearby, what street the street i lived on went to, and what was behind my house lol.
the second time because i was a 'vetren' buyer or whatever, they just sent it within seconds to my email

I sense the loss of something shiny in this corporation's near future. Something with a name that starts with Ny or Wy.
Buying many gtcs in bulk, through any of these sites, will result in them wanting a lot of security precautions like blood samples and stuff.

Never tried shattered crystal myself, but I have done trade with www.evetimecode.com a few times, and have only good experiences with them! Never asked me for photo ID, just the one phone call.
If ANYONE started asking for ID, I would told them to stick it up their behind.

tbh I think SC's way of verifying it really is your PayPal account is really good. Since PP's get hacked daily they need to verify things. They called almost right after my purchase and it took one minute to answer their questions and the GTC arrived, since then I've never had any type of issues with them.
Sure if you feel uncomfortable with their way of verifying you're not someone trying to abuse someone elses PayPal then don't use them, otherwise I think they're very good.

I have bought many gtc at shaterd crystal and i never have a problem.. If i order it i have my order within 30 seconds..
However when i first bought something i recieved a phone call checking if i was alright

Ever considered just using your CC instead?
Also, new purchasers are often checked first if moer than 2-3 pruchases in a short time are made. Simple ID checks to check if they're not scammers and the like. If you were Shattered Crystal, wouldnt you do the same?

For personal reasons from the past i refuse to use PayPal since they sided with a scammer when my wife was selling some bits and bobs then sold the debt to a 3rd party.
Are there any GTC sellers that use direct CC payment?

How come you get called by girl? I was called by a guy with a bad English accent.. wanted to know what city I lived in, I said a small town called this and that. Then he asked what supermarkets were nearby... I had just said small town!
Other then that, and the fact the call came in at 2AM, I have had no problems or any more calls, been their client for a year now. But I also do not purchase more then 2-3 codes at a time, maybe the bulk orders made by a fairly new customer require special care ;) |

I used them just yesterday, i got a call too.
To be honest though, i like it. I like the security measures they have in place, it makes ME feel comfortable, it tells me that they take their business very seriously and is definitely very re-assuring. Perhaps this is why they're popular?

TBH. calling is fine, the sites like this one get scammed quite often, but when they start asking for photo ID, scans of driver's licenses or other ID cards then it's too much.
I'm not sure they engage in RMT on that particular site, but if you look through some of the links under "Site's we like" you'll find plenty of RMT going on. I would never give my ID up to a company that's so blatantly ignoring those kinds of rules.

I've had the same problems with SC in the past... I ordered GTCs once at SC and it was such a pain in the but until I finally had proved to them that I was not a scammer or CC thief.
That was the last time I did any business with such a company...
Since when do I have to prove my innocence to some questionable company before they actually render the service I had already paid for... Maybe the legal system in some countries require the accused to prove their innocence but where I come from people are innocent until proven guilty - not the other way around!
I'd sooner quit playing eve then ever do business with such a company again. I have understanding to a certain degree that SC has to protect themselves from scammers but if that means that I get forced to prove my innocence and am made to feel like some sort of thief then that's defiantly over the top. Not to mention down right insulting!
Also: I've bought computers, books, DVDs, games and countless other much more expensive things over the internet and never had to prove my innocence before.

i have nothing but love for Shattered Crystal..
I got called up last summer after i ordered a GTC, and i answered the questions and i got verified - after that GTCs just arrive 10s after i order them.
Plus im a reseller of them aswell (tri board gtc link)
and they fund my server, so i can't complain..

Did some business with SC and found no problem whatsoever.
I'm in Holland and the first time round they called to verify me so to say, having explain to them the nearest hospital to where I live in english was amusing. :)

I have had no problems from S.C and i have bought afew time cards lets say as im crap at pvp  and ive only had one phone call from them and they wanted too know what bus ran by my house and the road near a local school

When i first used shattered crystal they asked me for my id and stuff which was fair enough i thought. Then asked me all about where i live and what towns are near me and the names of some street roads etc... now i live in turkey and cant read most of the road signs let alone the place names, i just loaded Google earth up while she spoke to me and read a load of it out on there... no this girl was obviously doing the same thing. Made me laugh though. I was using my wife's card my wife's id and she didn't even clock that :|
had good fast service from them the 2nd time i ordered though

#I once spent ú120 on gtc and they never arrived. When I contacted them they said they had been sent in the post and received. I know for a fact that they cant claim that.
Even after I contacted the trading standards agency they said they couldnt do anything because they hadn't got a registered office nearby.
I will NEVER use them again and tell everyone I know to steer clear of them.

Always use SC and never had any problems. Codes are delivered within 2 minutes after paypal payment has been succesfully done.
Last time when all 60 days cards were sold out i got one from eve-codes.com. Within 20 minutes i had my code.

SC is very paranoid. They flag any order that is more than $100US, made in less than 30 days after initial order, uses a credit card different from the one used on last order. BC is less paranoid, but have a tendency to be out of stock more often than SC. The OP second order probably got flagged for size and frequency.
SC also tells you there is a limit on orders in the first 30 days of establishing a SC account. If you made that second order, especially a large second order, before the 30 day starter peroid was finished, I can see why you got the ID request. SC is thinking, stolen CC # got processed ok so the big order is going in before the initial one shows on card owners statement. GTC is not a big enough profit margin to cover even an occasional loss to SC by customer fraud.

It's weird, I've been doing business with shatered christal for almost a year and a half now, and they only asked my adress "once" since I was doing it via Credit card. The first purchase took about an hour, the other took 15 min or less...especially when you do it via paypal.
and for the record, I was never asked for no ID when I my transactions va PayPal.

Personally, any company that only uses paypal as it's method of payment, and not good old fashioned Credit Cards are companies to be avoided.
I understand that not everyone has a credit card, and that paypal is a good alternative for THEM, but for those of us with credit cards, why make us transfer money via Paypal. It's just a useless step.

Thank you to the very few people who actually read the OP.....if it was just a few questions there would have been no problem in answering them, but they didnt, they asked for a photo ID and actual address, not just "where abouts do you live"...but the actual address.
And no, we are'nt buying buying motherships etc, as i said, we are a new corp and some of the guys who refuse to use CC's online just wanted GTC's on standby for when their account time runs out....thats all.

The first time I dealt with Shattered Crystal, I'd already been warned about the whole phone call confirmation aspect of ordering from them. Within 15 minutes of placing my order I was phoned and an (American sounding) SC employee tried to confirm my address: it wasn't easy as the phone connection was terrible that day (I'm in Australia) and my address has two road names. In the end we struggled past all that and my order was verified. I've had no problems since then and I'm happy to be a SC customer.
Personally, I like their security minded procedures and think you're being both too picky and too paranoid.

I had no problem with Shattered Crystal. They even double checked that it was me when I ordered a GTC over the net from Manila while I was out there because it came from a different country's IP address.
It shows they are on the ball as far as security is concerned. I would far sooner them call me to make sure than just send it out to someone who has managed to hack my account details.

I just bought 2 x 60d codes for my two accounts. I has advised before accepting my purchase that they would verify my identity by phone.
Five minutes later, the call came, I answered a few questions, and got my codes no hazzle.
If all online shops went through a simple phonecall like this, most fraud would be impossible. I dont take offense. I actually think highter of them for at least trying to protect legitimate credit card holders.

If you have a Paypal Business account you'll have problems, when they called me up telling me they couldnt "find" anything about my business they said they couldnt make the transaction because they thought my account was Fraudulent. I would never do anything with those people ever again. |

^^ This.. Same problem also if you try to use a company credit/debit card (VISA or MC).
BattleClinic fortunately does not suffer such amateurish problems, and they don't require a rectal exam to make a simple $15-$35 GTC purchase.

I used to deal with evetimecode.com until S.C took them over.
I did 1 transaction with S.C afterwards, without a problem. Second time, they call me(Just like evetimecode.com did, without a problem), and they told me I was fraudulent and required photo ID and passport scan.
Knowing that it's a guy called Markus EIkenberry who runs the verification company(TrustWho), and that he has no morale or anything whatsoever, I can't exactly recommend anybody sending the things they require nor even dealing with his companies.
He even used to sell the WoW Glider bot which got owned in court recently.
Point: Keep away from S.C. It's run by awful people.

Not to bright are ya champ...i have already said twice in this thread that they didnt just call up to verify (which we had no problem with) they wanted us to send a full photo ID and the ACTUAL address, not just the city or suburb.
We contacted a online consumer watchdog group who said..."it is not against the law for any private online company to ask for whatever identifacation they wish, however, asking for a photoID is not normal practise and we would be extremely suspicous of any company asking for this type of infomation".
