It's funny. You always hear people grumbling about "what that idiot in a Volvo did" or "some plonker on the Hibblesbury junction nearly crashing into me". But if there are all these terrible drivers out there, why do I never hear anyone admit that they were at fault in any situation?
So my question is: will anyone on these forums admit to being a bad driver? Have you ever caused a situation where you wouldn't have blamed the other driver for getting out of his car and lamping you?
I'll go first. It was a few days after passing my test and the first time driving on my own. I was going down a main road with all these "fake roundabouts" painted on the road. I failed to notice I was approaching another one and almost ploughed straight into a learner who clearly had right of way there. |

Oh shit, people make mistakes, I guess that's normal. That doesn't automatically make you a bad driver, now does it? But NOT seeing when you screw up, and only blaming the other guy, that's probably a surefire way to become a bad driver sooner or later |

Around 6 speeding tickets Several running of stoplights 1 running a stop sign 3 accidents 1 driving off a cliff 1 intentional ramming
I've hit 1 deer, 2 ducks, a bat, several rabbits, miscellaneous small birds, and several snakes.
But never have I ever been pulled over in a company vehicle or my motorcycle. |

I dunno what scares me more - your tally or the fact that you're keeping track. |

Edited by: Slade Trillgon on 09/10/2008 23:49:32 I have a list that rivals MD's above.
Worst I have done is I have run a red light and caused a collision. I thought her father might beat my ass when he showed up but the guy just kept saying "I told her to take the highway". LMAO!!! The dude was cool.
Luckily as I was running the red light I realized what was happening and actually made the situation less violent. I had to cut hard left and she hit me in my front right wheel well. If I had been driving my old 4-Runner I would have rolled into her making the cut I did. If I had not made the cut I would have t-boned her at about 25 mph.
EDIT: Even with my many offenses I still consider myself a very conscious driver that causes much less stryfe on the road then I see.

I'm quite happy that I've never caused any accidents, but there have been a few times where I've thought: "that was really dangerous, if things had been slightly different someone could have been hurt just then".
Anyone can cause an accident, it only takes a bad combination of events and a momentary distraction.
In a related tone to the OP but quite off-topic, will anyone here admit to being unable to use a toilet? I'm sure I've never met anyone that just never had the opportunity to learn those basic skills, but go into any public toilet... _____ Originally by: Ryysa,Pwett Why would you play Single Player when you have todays internet connectivity at your disposal? I'm told I'm a 'bad driver', but haven't had a speeding ticket in 11 years, no serious accidents ever, have the maximum discount available and drive around much of the day for my job. I conclude my secretary and my frineds are stupid and unskilled
Dunno... I honestly think I'm fairly skilled, though I'm always in a hurry.

I fail horribly at driving. I once came about 6 inches from hitting a mailbox, came close to flipping a Honda Civic from going into a turn way too fast, and cutting some guy off when I wasn't supposed to turn. __________________ Subscription ends: 10/13/08 Donations for a shiny new GTC? |

haha. khm... (volvo owner here) considering myself quite mediocre driver anyway. haven't been in any accidents (tho one time I destroyed one car's front plastic bumper with my trailer/tow thingy (sorry, have no idea how's this called in english)). and yeah, have had close ones several times, few of them because of my inability to spot something.
most close ones have been on highway though, where some guys are speeding and passing other cars in a way that sometimes seems suicidal (when in Estonia, drive from Tallinn to Tartu, you'll understand).
and one time I almost smashed into 3 deers. that was really close one.

Gratz!
I passed in March, got myself straight into a massive car.
Trial of fire and all that, don't bother wussying around with compact cars... Hell, at the time I wanted a '72 Camaro but I couldn't find a good one with the money I had.
I'd consider myself an OK driver, compared to some. I don't really go fast, I just accelerate fast to the limit... there may be a few wheelspins here and there but you know, thats trivial.
Overall I drive like a grandpa since I like to cruise with the windows down, I'm rarely in a rush to go anywhere when I drive, though if I am in a rush (its happened once) I drive a bit crazy, back coming out on roundabouts and all that jazz. Rear wheel drive without traction control is fun.

I was overtaking a truck on a 2 lane road (no hard shoulder). Suddenly, a car appears on the opposite lane going fast towards me. I can't move back because the truck is now in the way (he is slowing down) and I'm trapped. Happily, I saw a relatively straight patch of grass on the left side, and swerved there, out of the way of the incoming car. After a couple of bumps, I stop scared out of my life. 1 second from being road plaster.
Other than that, no accidents and no tickets. ------------------------ This space for rent |

Driving motorbikes I've had a few accidents that were my fault when I was young, 16 to 18, mostly due to speeding but a few busted ribs you quickly learn to respect how easy it is to get yourself killed on a bike if your irresponsible.
Driving cars I've crashed a few that were not mine, (working in garages, company cars, drunk driving in other peoples cars) but never crashed one that belonged to me.
once I hit 21 or so I became a very careful driver, both driving cars and bikes and putting up LOTS and LOTS of mileage I never crashed, but between 16 to 20 I was a bit reckless / suicidal on the road |

Still taking my driving lessons, and my teacher is pulling out his hairs because I step on the gas when the trafic light hits orange, someone who wants to cross the road is being awefully slow about it or I can pass a stop sign because there is no traffic. These are situations though where you are pretty certain it will end up right but it is still breaking the rules. Meh |

Edited by: EnslaverOfMinmatar on 10/10/2008 10:05:44 in 5 years i've hit a deer(broken headlight), had a speeding ticket (settled for a broken speedometer in court lmao) and 1 time in winter my car veered to the left towards an oncoming car cuz of snow @45 mph, so i jerked the wheel all the way to the right and hit a wall of snow (snow filled the entire engine compartment, but only 1 plastic dirtguard cracked near the wheel) Also i drove the wrong way 1 time lol, was in town
