Edited by: Rells on 10/10/2008 15:03:16 From my Post in Corp Forum:
Originally by: Rells
Greetings Agony,
Over the past 5 years I have play a hell of a lot of Eve, devoting 12 hours a day to the game at times. During that time I have done just about everything there is to do in the game short of some things that I have no interest in such as being a "serious miner." During that time I started AGONY for many of the reasons you all know. It has been fun and revealing and I cant say how much I have enjoyed it.
However, over the last 6 months my interest in it has been waning. There were a few personal events that happened that started the seed but it has grown. At this time I don't get the same satisfaction that I once did out of the game but at the same time I haven't completely lost interest in the game. In addition, I have gotten into other activities in my life such as Martial Arts, Hunting, Stock Market trading and Political Activism. Those interest compete for time with Eve and the other activities are winning in the competition. Although I don't plan to outright quit just yet, my Eve time will be radically scaled back.
As a result, it would not be fair of me to leave AGONY in the lurch CEO wise. For this reason I have decided to resign as CEO and allow the senior officers of AGONY to choose another CEO that is more active. Don't think of it as quitting. I will be staying on as a director and ops admiral but my play time will be much more curtailed than in the past. I have further committed that I will not be returning to take over again, the new CEO will be calling the shots.
What I will be doing is continuing to run the web site and vent server as well as showing up especially for the larger ops. I hope all of you will understand this change in my life and no one should take this personally. This is about me, not about you. It is about insuring the survival of an organization I built and love. It is about seeing the future of AGONY go forward where my personal interest diverge a bit.
Below my letter in the same post here will be a follow up by the new CEO of AGONY. As a favor to me, I would ask you all treat him with all the respect you have shown me.
-- Regards, -- Rells
And Response in Agony's Public Forum from the new CEO:
Originally by: Christina Bamar
Over the past months Rells has become busy with real life and has had little to no time for EVE. As a result he as decided to step down as Agony CEO to take a more behind the scenes role as a director. After a unanimous decision by the Agony directors it's been decided that I will take over as Agony CEO. For those who don't know me I've been in Agony for a little over two years total and have been serving as the Combat Operations Director over recent months.
Rells has made Agony what it is today and definitely leaves some big shoes to fill. I plan to do my best continue Agony as it has been running and maintain the great corp and pvp school that we've built. We'll still be the pvp-teaching, blue-hating, slightly deranged group we've always been. Keep an eye out for new classes coming up soon. I'm going to be trying to get a new advanced class running hopefully within a month or two, so get your cruisers ready.
From now on I will be the main point of contact for all corporate/alliance/pvp university issues, so leave Rells alone and let him enjoy his retirement.
Bamar CEO of Agony
Just as a footnote I believe the game is heading in the wrong direction and I hope CCP changes the tune and works more toward the things that matter to Eve players. Drop ambulation and work on soverignty rewrite, player kingdoms, UI redesign and so on. The players of Eve deserve more than continual sniping "balance changes" and pointless features like walking in stations. CCP needs to form a LONG TERM strategy for Eve and stick to it. Right now it looks pretty bloody random.

As you are more important than any other CEO and your alliance is more important than any other alliance, you post here instead of CAOD..
Well done..

good luck in those other things you've become involved in.
Maybe a complete break would be good? and then when new stuff comes in, it'll be more fun because theres so much to do? rather than becoming bored with it all before it's even left test server?

Gotta love Eve, people will flame for any reason whatsoever without even bothering to consider how the change might impact people registered for courses and so on. Oh ya ... I remember why ... because people like you are morons.
Well, now that we have that settled it all makes sense. Have a nice day.

Its not really a matter of boredom near as much as a matter of other things in my life taking much higher priority. But perhaps you are right. i havent outright quit the game or anything, just turned over AGONY to a VERY CAPABLE leader that I respect greatly.

Given that CAOD is full of drooling halfwits and total crap id suggest this post has far more in common with general discussion.
Yeah it involves a widely respected CEO stepping down, but its got some other GENERAL discussion points, (some of which I wholeheartedly agree with.) |

Maybe boredom isn't the word i'm looking for. Jaded?
I was thinking though, that if you take a complete break, not even just logging in every so often, but take a month or more off, then when you get the feeling that "i feel like playing EVE a bit", then you can log in and things would be different from the last time you were on, and that would be more fun. Compared with logging in all the time, even for a short while, just to see more of the same of what there was last time.
then you'd take another month off, and stuff. So that when you do play EVE, it's more fun and exciting? |

Rells,
Good luck to you and your future endeavors! With AGONY, you and your friends have built a unique and valuable organization and I am grateful for the learning experiences you have provided me. I'm glad you are not leaving EVE entirely and hope you will continue to post your brutally honest viewpoint on the game's development and direction in the future.
Best wishes as well to Bamar - may the CEO hat fit comfortably! |

Truth be told I have no idea of who you or your allaince is. But sorry to hear that you are toning down on EVE. The trick about EVE is not to make it your life, but keep it a game that you can log on once in a while so that it stays fun.
I am not certin you have a good prespective on the way EVE is heading. I agree that Ambulation is not needed, but I do not think that is the main research area tbh. |

Sorry to hear you're cutting back Rells, all those newbies who won't hear your raspy voice berate them when they don't listen to the FC... ;p
Hope you have fun with the new hobbies and still get to enjoy the odd bit of fleet warefare.

Hey, debate is the beginning of knowledge! As for the stock market things are so undervalued right now that I am cleaning house. Portfolio has some really awesome stuff in it for astonishing rates. In essence I'm buying Ravens for 5 mil each when they are still valued far over that.
If you have capital to invest, now is the time to do it and get rich!

Well, I wouldn't hold my breath on that If I were you. But then I don't actually care what you do nor about your insults. A lot of people say they don't care but I actually don't.

Raspy? One person said my voice was "destroyed in the best of times" and others say raspy? *shrug*
We will see about the fleet warfare but as for the hobbies I just bought a brand new Uberti 1885 High Wall .45-70 Rifle and its Elk season. YUM. *gets out recipe book* I'm working on some Elk loads and going hunting next friday. Gonna have to bring the Bear Pepper spray though. There are a lot of black bears this year. At any rate it's all good.

Then you should go play WOW or something. This is a space game. This game is about combat and challenge and group warfare.
As for "who agonies are", I must laugh.
AGONY is a corporation that has taught over 5000 people in this game how to PvP through their courses and hands on instruction. For nearly 3 years AGONY has been successfully running PvP classes for the public. AGONY is also an organization that researches and develops new tactics and techniques for PvP and applies them. AGONY accepts no blues and if you see one in 0.0 with you, your safe bet is to assume he is hostile and highly capable.

I quite often don't agree with Rells, but at least he's usually somewhat respectful and can put together a sentence with proper grammar and structure. ;)
So, congratulations on your change in status, enjoy more real life, and congrats to the new Agony CEO.

Being CEO of a corporation can be taxing at times, and can take a hell of a lot of effort if you want to run a corp to it's maximum potential.
Handing on the torch is the best thing to do in my opinion when you find yourself burned out or distracted elsewhere.
Good luck in your new role with Agony.

Bamar, hope you make good work! The classes I took were great groundwork. If they are still good I'll send new players your way for some lessons. I could now try to put words to my... grief I had with Agony, but it looks like the cause is now less important and I hope it stays removed.
