Is there no way to equip a weapon and a mining laser on the Bestower? I know it only has one turrent spot but it's a true pain to not have any weapons. Can a upgrade or skill give you an extra turrent spot on your ship?
Maybe just wish full thinking but geez.

The best way to use the Bestower is to park a Punisher or a Rifter at the same station as your Bestower, put 3 mining lasers or two mining lasers and a weapon on it, then go out to a belt and mine. When your cargo fills, jettison the ore into space, then open the cargo pod and continue filling it with ore... there is no limit. When you have enough ore, fly back to the station and pick up your Bestower (armed with a weapon) and go back to the belt and pick up the cargo pod :) The bestower by itself is useless for mining, but you can make a couple million isk a day mining n00b minerals like this.

The bestower isnt totally useless just really slow. At work I've thrown eve on an extra machine in our server farm and I switch to it everyonece in a while to fly back to station and sell then back to mine some more. And this works but I would like to give my bestower some teeth for when im actively mining the unfriendly skies from home.

Plus if i park a ship out in a ring doesnt leave it open to just anyone who comes by hopping in and flying off.

You do not leave a ship unmaned in space... you park the Bestower at the station along with your Punisher... the Punisher mines and the Bestower runs freight. You leave the station in the Punisher to mine then you return to the station and switch to the Bestower to pick up your cargo pod. Yes the Bestower is fine for mining if you are AFK... but it would be best to do that type of operation in a 1.0 system, unfortunately you will only get one turret slot to use.
