now the guns would only fire on ppl with a -5.0 standing with the deploying corp or lower so neutrals would be allowed in (lets face it you can not apply -10.0 standings to all corps in the game) also (the way i understand it) the player owned guns are not invinceble (like the NPC variety) so one or more well armed BS would easely make it into a system but would not be able to stay by the gate blocading it (or leave the way they came in unless the guns was destroyed)
now with all that said this is only the begining more will come

I wouldn't think Sentry guns would be allowed near gates. The gates are not owned by players and I'm sure the actual owners wouldn't be to kindly to having their assets controlled by "others". Granted, you want to control a certain area of space, but owners of gates should want to protect access to their gate networks, even if they are NPC's.
Perhaps one day we'll have player built jump gates, allowing players to control who has access. Having a point to point gate system that work in pairs would be neat. But, that's an idea for another day.

i do agree with you that a player owned gate with guns make more sense
now this raises another interestin Q will players be able to buy the 0.0 gates there by disalowing certain corps access to their systems if this would come after the jump drives and buildeble stargates was intreduced it would make owning a piece of 0.0 a real possibilyti instead of like it is now that certain aliances just cliam the area

Adding player owned gates could bring some intersting stragies to the game. There could even be advanced gates that have a built in warp inhibitor that guarantees you can't use BM's to warp to the gate, you stop 15k out no matter how hard you try or who you are. This would give player owned sentry weapons time to work, if needed. You could build these gates anywhere in space, and hopefully they are not objects that show up on the nav maps or autopilot routes, you'll need to know where they are or find them.
To make life more interesting, how about also making jump gates where they can be shut down once their shields are down to 5%, like the current player owned stations are. This could be a great way to shut down traffic, especially at the choke points if a team where able to shut down one of the regular jump gates. Those who have access/knowlege of the player built gate could attempt to travel through that gate as an alternative if one is available and operating. This would also bring in the need for those much anticipated Jump Drives many of us have been training for but have yet to utilize. Dream on, what else would you like to see with these?

renting might be better as this would be a major money sink and gates would (and should) be expensive to built and/or rent
now all of a sudden a system like px something or another that only have one gate is a good investment as one gate can be protected fairly easy
mind you with this idear you would be able to rent a gate from whoever owns it and put sentry guns in 0.0 ONLY BY THE GATES YOU OWN and there should be a limit (maybe a POS shield/power system you can configure depending on how much shield you want your sentry guns to have vs firepower)also by setting your standings the gate would not allow corps or persons you have set a bad standing towards to use it this way corps could own systems and restrict access so known pirates can not enter (unless they got a jump drive) and neither can corps you are at war with (again without the said Jump Drive) now this would have to be in conjuction with player built Jumpgates so that if corp A and Corp B are at war and Corp B want to attack Corp A but they dont have a Jump drive they can hire Corp C (that has a neutral standing towards corp A)to build them a Gate inside corp A's system now if corp A finds the gate before it gets active they can destroy it and Corp C However to find corp C's gate they would have to stumble upon it untill it is activated then it should show up under gates in the menu and Corp B can now assult Corp A
rent of Jumpgates should be expensive both to force corps to claim fewer systems and to be a major money sink and if a rent was not paid the gate would be canceled /put up for rent again also only 0.0 gates should be able to be rented in that way as the empires most likely own their own gates and the .1-.4 should still imo be free to roam
just think of it 0.0 systems owned by aliance forces that can set so the corps the aliance are at war with do not enter maybe just maybe this would open aliance space up to more freelancers and independent traders and small corps and stop this KOS of all nonaliance members that some corps curently do ??

I dont think the current gates should be able to do this, however I would like to see the addition of several hundred 'end-cap systems' consisiting of 1-2 star systems on the edges of 0.0 space with just one way in. They would have decent ore, and good NPCs, but not as good as in full 0.0...these places would be designed so that those who want to hold a little territory could do it easily without disturbing the rest of the community. I think we should be able to mount guns at gates, this is the ultimate definition of building a empire.
I think there should be a limit, say 6 guns at a gate.
and i also agree that there should be several hundred dead end system that you can build defenses at and claim the system for your corp.
the bigger aliances can come blowing in. and wipe it all out, but it would be a fight.
also these dead end system should have no npc stations in them. players need to build all them selves.

I feel that we should be able to Rent the gates from whoever owns them and put a amount of guns by the gate
however we would have to have buildeble gates and Jump drives ingame for this to work as it would be much harder to attack then defend
on the other hand with the way i hear the player owned guns are a fleet of BS might be able to take down 6-8 guns i have not seen what the new player owned gun can do only heard that they are not as strong as the empire versions (wich is only right) Thank You Paw Sandberg
