Exactly what the topic asks is what I want to know. With people mindset that mined ore is free, the prices for ships/modules are below constuction prices, imho I think it would be better just to mine and sell the ore/refined goods or am I wrong. I just want to get some info on this before I get to deep into construction.

Please point me in the direction of the items that are below construction cost. I'd love to reprocess them and sell the minerals.

Pretty much all if not all BPO are profitable, but sometimes the margins are very low or next to nil because of NPC seeded items that is capping the max price you can sell, high competition or plain old wrong item selling in the wrong region/market.
Few tips to increase those margins are taking the time to research those BPOs, sell in markets with demands(NPC owned 0.0 can be a good options) and setting up your own manufacturing lines if you have a high volume of production(a factory pos). Also run the numbers, sometimes a low margin but high volume of sales can be more profitable the a low volume high profit item.
Buy BPCs and test out the waters, crunch numbers and you will find that everything will turn a profit is you use a bit of brain.

Just did some figuring on a Raven BP. Using current market prices of the minerals, cost of materials alone is 86M Isk. Ravens sell for 85-88M in Amarr space. I expect the price is roughly the same in Caldari space, or maybe even a bit cheaper.
Cheapest 1-run BPC I found was 850k.
If I want a ship, I buy it from my construction/mining alt, less the cost of Megacyte and Zydrine, which I have to buy. That way I "keep" the money. Kind of a strange way to justify all that training time.
I've yet to see a ship that you can make a decent profit off of by manufacturing it. There may be some T1 modules or drones you can make a go of, buy you're going to have to really research your market to find high-volume items with decent mark-ups that aren't already saturated.

Same problem as always. People mine their own ore, refine it, then sell their products at a very low price because their minerals were "free". Or they didn't even bother doing the math on how much it actually costs to build the item. Get into 0.0 with a good supply of BPs and you can make a lot of ISK building ships and modules.

Yup, I originally wanted to go into manufacturing but after a few days of researching the market I changed to mining. Too many people selling stuff too cheap to make an easy profit. I calculate the costs of my minerals as the highest I could get for selling them. And 90% of the time I can get more for selling than from making something.

Only having looked at manufacturing from the outside, here are some thoughts from a trained but not practicing industrialist:
The buying prices of ships and modules as well as the selling prices for ore and minerals tend to be highest near the major trade hubs. Hanging out in Amarr space, I know from personal experience that just going a couple of jumps over into Khanid territory changes things rather drastically.
Because of the above, if I wanted to manufacture for profit, I'd probably need to to either get the minerals someplace else or mine them myself (spending time instead of money) because the margins have to be very low in that area.
Sometimes, it's just not worth it to me going 5-10 jumps away for an item I need.
It would seem to me that the trick is to identify areas and items where you can fill a local demand, and letting the locals buy from you instead of going to a hub to pick it up a little cheaper. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

I haven't been manufacturing for long but so far i have made around 4 billion in profit from sales. About 1-1.4 bil has gone to GTC's though.
The main thing you need to know about manufacturing is you need money to make money.
