Gallente:
Taranis - excellent interceptor. Go with blaster fit for the win, the railranis is sub-par compared to the Crow and Crusader. Once you've got the hang of timing overloads you'll melt a lot of other 'ceptors, plus it has fearsome dps and is the only 'ceptor that can go up against destroyers and weaker cruisers with a high chance of success.
Ares - phenomenal tackler, really good thanks to it's slot layout.
Amarr:
Crusader - in skilled hands it's easily the best dogfighting frig out there. Melts other 'ceptors really fast, only a blaster fit Taranis stands a chance. Fast, high firepower, incredible tracking. Only let down by 2 meds and that its cap won't last very long running all weapons and a point.
Malediction - Faster than a Crow, cheaper than a Crow, tackles better than a Crow, tougher than a Crow. Less dps than a Crow. That's pretty much all you need in a tackler.
Retribution - one medslot, but in a gang you'll be fitting a MWD and melting things that come in range due to absurd toughness and firepower for a frigate. Utterly useless solo but shines in a frig gang.
Caldari:
Crow - It's jack of all trades, master of none. It is, however, the best interceptor in the game by a clear mile IF you spend billions fitting the absolute best gear possible and have HG snakes. It scales incredibly well and an absolute top of the line Crow will kill everthing that can't tank it; other 'ceptors, nanoHAC's (including vagabonds...), plated battleships etc. Without the insane isk investment it's still a good interceptor thanks to being easy to fit and fly. It can tackle and do ok damage.
Raptor - only gets mentioned since it's the second worst ship in the game. The worst ship in the game is, of course, the Hawk.
Harpy - Fit it one way and you can shoot 100km away. Fit it another way and it kills almost any ceptor within 45km. Fit it a third way and it's a better blaster-boat than the Enyo. After the speed patch, I suspect it will become a very effective 'heavy' tackler.
Kitsune - It has ECM bonuses. Providing you can avoid getting shot, it's really useful. If someone looks at you in a stern manner though you will explode. Good for fast roams.
I can't fly minmatar but the only t2 frig of theirs I'm even remotely concerned about is the Hyena, because it can web. Never had many problems outfighting any of the others, although the speedy buggers sure are good at getting away. Bombers are bombers, not much to choose between them in reality. Same with covops frigs, although I find the Anathema FAR easier to fit well than the Buzzard or Helios.
Basically, think about what you want to actually DO with your frigs and pick according to that as opposed to trying to pick the 'best' one. "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" |
