Like countless thousands before me,I pretty much created a random character when I began, some sort of Caldari Special Forces Op (surprise surprise)
A bit over the top for a trainee miner and occassional mission runner who is a long, long time away from PvP tbh.
I've just read a post somewhere that said it was worth someone rerolling if they had less than a couple of million sp (I have 1.5 atm) in order to start fresh.
Is it really neccesary? I thought that with skill books etc. it wasnt such a big deal in the long run?
Im at a stage where I could reroll and use my present char to make ISK while a new one is training but I'd rather not if possible.
Its now or never I suppose?

I was in a similar situation and throwing 2 mill skillpoints in the bin was too much so I soldiered on. Hasn't caused me any problems other than my ill conceived avatar.
Train learning skills and get implants to copensate for any dodgy characteristics in your roll and you should be fine.
I think its important to be commited to the character you have. ------------------------------------------- ôIf you are in a spaceship that is traveling at the speed of light, and you turn on the headlights, does anything happen?ö ------------------------- |

Thats a good point about being committed to your Char.
I suppose that I'm not now that I realise that he was pretty random.
I'd be interested to know whether casual players generally make one who can do a bit of everything or run 3 specialists?

Look at your base attributes. This is what's important.
I use a rule of 7/8/9. All base attributes should be 7,8 or 9 for a balanced character. If you deviate from that, then you should know why and the consequences.
If your character is balanced, then you can do anything. Don't worry about the base skills - they mean nothing in the longer term. ______________________ Isn't it time you learned to fight back? Agony Unleashed Home of the PvP University.

Yeah unless you have something daft like Memory 3 or Perception 4, then keep going. However if you have something like that or charisma 15 etc then time for a re-roll. I re-rolled my first character at 2.5m SP due to stupid amounts of low memory. --

I guess IÆm a æcasual playerÆ as I play most days (but not all) and often donÆt play at weekends because of RL getting in the way.
IÆm Gallente (waits for the boo hiss from the masses lol) and IÆm up to 3.3 million skill points after some 3 months. I can fly anything up to a Battlecruiser.
I have most of my learning skills up to level 4 and trained just about anything while I learned the game. IÆm now training for a cloaking device then on to Covert Ops so I can go to explorer.
So I can do missions, mine, catch rats, haul goods, manufacture products, buy and sell all sorts of stuff. I donÆt make a vast living but I enjoy the game and IÆve lost a couple of ships not because the pilots were good but because I was bad. I will still loose ships (just like I loose a ælifeÆ in single player games), so be a casual player and enjoy æyourÆ game played the way you decide not by some designer who decided you need eight fingers and 26 buttons just to get your avatar from cliff face A to door B.
Fly safe and have fun itÆs æYourÆ game.

Id appreciate some feedback on my stats then..
Intel 15, Percept 11, Charisma 4, Will 11, Memory 7
I have 1.5 mil sp
I'm guessing that this isnt a disaster for a relatively well rounded char (except for the charisma) and I may as well keep going with it?

Charisma is quite bad, but unless you want to train for a command ship, leadership skills, some trade or social skills that's OK.
Memory is relatively low compared to the others. I'd prefer intel down a bit and memory up a bit, but like you said, it's not a disaster.
If you're going to re-roll do it now. You've got 3 slots on your account, you don't have to delete this character - you could come back to it if you want.

Thanks Baka
I guess that this Char is more suited to the combat missions he was rolled for after all then?!
Perhaps he could sign up for your PvP lessons when hes ready in a year or so? (How would he apply?)
I have one last question while this thread is still running then...
To save me making the same mistake on a re-roll,are there paricular combinations that come out relatively balanced?
Thanks

Try this link:

or this one:

And for reference - our PvP Basic course can be done by a 2 week old character. The pre-reqs are quite easy. You can sign up on our forums and enroll in a class from there. ______________________ Isn't it time you learned to fight back? Agony Unleashed Home of the PvP University.

You'll really need to link your base stats, without the learning skills applied. If you don't have any levels in Instant Recall then your Memory skill is fine; if you have Instant Recall III for example then it's horrific.
I'm not sure if there's a way to actually see your base attributes in-game; you can get them from EVEMon though, just hover over the attribute readouts at the top of the character sheet and it will say something like "Perception: 11.08 [(7 base + 3 skill + 1 implants) * 1.08 from learning bonus]". Thus you can easily see your base attributes for pasting here - and if you don't have EVEMon already, it's worth getting for much more than just this!
I have 5 base perception because I was going to be a manufacturer-type (heh) - so now a year and a half down the line it's taking me slightly longer to learn the advanced gunnery skills than perhaps it might. But I'm not too bothered. sure, given the chance I'd bump a point or two from one attribute to the other - however, it's all swings and roundabouts, and a low score in one attribute means you have a higher score in another. I learnt my capacitor skills (and thus Thermodynamics for overheating) faster with my current attributes than with what I might consider a perfect distribution.
At the end of the day remember that the only thing that attributes affect is your training time - once you've learnt a skill, you'll be just as good as someone with double your attributes. Unless you have some attributes horrendously out of whack then it's probably going to come down a to a difference of a few days in a year. In the grand scheme of things, having a character that you like and can engage with is much more important.
Oh, and if you've already been through the "grind" of getting learning skills up, it's going to be particularly painful to reroll and do them again. If you haven't invested any major amounts of time in learning skills on this character, now would be the time to reroll if you're going to at all.

Good point - I didn't add them up, but your base stats should add up to 39 (you've got 47 so some learning skills are included).
And I totally agree with using EveMon. It will suggest learning skills based on your skills plans and you can see how the attributes are used.
