There's been a bit of an "uproar" recently about the removal of "ghost training" (skill training continuing even if you're not paying). Basically, the (sensible) points here boil down to CCP not wanting to support people who subscribe, train a bunch of skills, then set a long skill and let the account expire, resub to change skills for a month/2, rinse and repeat -- they're getting (say) 12 months of skill training by paying for 6 or 7 months of subscription. On the other hand, you have people bringing up the appeal of setting a long skill and leaving the game, only to be enticed back by that long skill finishing.
How about a compromise: have ghost training be at a reduced rate, say 50% of normal time. That should cut down on people farming characters (with the exact reduction rate tweaked to make sure it has an effect), while at the same time continueing to entice former players back again with the promise of a long-term skill being completed. You might also add a specific list of skills that cannot be trained in this manner (Carrier V, Titan V, etc.), or a cap on the amount of ghost training (ie. 120 days of 50% speed training).
I think the player base (other than the ones doing it) can understand wanting to prevent people from repeatedly unsubscribing and resubscribing to "game" the training system, but as has been pointed out, this "ghost training" system also serves a useful purpose - attracting people back to the game. It should be possible to prevent the abuses of the system while still allowing the good parts. |

I wondered when they'd get around to nerfing this.
If it has been then bad call CCP. The game pace is super slow anyway, who cares if people play off and on. Way to look greedy like every other mmo out there. Oh wait, the power of two already did that. Way to re-enforce the image.

I've yet to see anyone say why ghost training in any form is a good thing. Just people complaining that they can't run as many alts now.
After all if your going to unsubscribe one account while keeping others active then it's clear to me that you don't have the time to enjoy playing all of them. And if your going to unsubscribe all your accounts to train, why are you playing Eve when you don't enjoy any of the day to day activities ?
