Hi guys,
I am looking to buy a new graphic card for my desktop. One that I have, can't support EVE on max(high details) and not loose frame rate in some of mission rooms.
So, I am looking for advice on what to get.
Here is my current configuration: Operating System MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1 CPU Intel Core i5 750 @ 2.67GHz/Lynnfield 45nm Technology RAM 6.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz (9-9-9-25) Motherboard ASUSTeK Computer INC. P7P55D (LGA1156) Graphics ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series - EAH5770 CU CORE/2DI/1GD5/A 1GB DDR5 Monitor VX2433wm @ 1920x1080 Hard Drive 625GB Western Digital WDC WD6400AAKS-00A7B2 ATA Device (IDE) Audio AMD High Definition Audio Device
Budge for graphic card upgrade is around 300 EUR.
Shoot.

I won't give any specific advice (but I will be watching this thread to see what other's say, because I'm interested also), but in general since Eve is optimized for Nvidia, I'd advise starting with those cards as opposed to Radeon. |

I will vouch for the GTX460, its a great card for Eve never had any issues with it. Runs Eve with everything set on full, the Captains quarters can be a bit choppy in certain places if you have post processing on High and Interior Effects on High, but other then that it runs smooth. 1920x1080 Resolution
But I'm personally really looking forward for the GTX670, pretty sure thats my next card.
Oh and don't forget about the GTX660 that will be out this summer. I'd bet it would be around 200-250 EUR price wise |

you should at least get a sata hard drive or SSD. you ram sounds strange, aint it always 1333 or 1600? what do you mean by 668mhz already suggested by above, wait for 670 or 560ti, or 570
incidentally if you want to get an A-T-I, the model number is 6-9-5-0 find it and skill yourself. don't forget to check if you PSU has enough juice |

Man comes in and asks about graphics card recommendations, first thing you comment on is an expensive hard drive upgrade with a relatively little effect on performance.

1333 and 1600 MHz are the front side bus speeds.
668 MHz is not front side bus speed. It is memory speed.
Run CPU-z, look at your FSB speed, then look at the memory speed. Life is short and dinner time is chancy Eat desert first! |

If a GTX460 can run EvE with everything set to HIGH is it worth spending the extra on a 560/560ti ?
I'm not interested in WIS, so any extra to make this look smooth would be a waste of time.
I'm currently looking at replacing my GT240, running a 1920x1080 screen.
Would the 460 be a safe bet, then do a big upgrade if/when the fabled tessellation arrives?

I've been using a GTX460 for a year now, and it has never let me down. Even if I run three accounts it performs faultlessly. |

Cheers for the quick reply, they do go for around -ú30 cheaper, so looks like that's they way to go.
Now to find a cheap one on flea bay.

I can run EVE with everything on high and it works. Thing is, over time this graphic card that I have starts to overheat 80C+. Also, when I run dual EVE accounts i have to optimize EVE for memory else graphic card goes up 90C+
Those are main reason why I am looking to upgrade. |

Then that sounds like you might need to look for a better cooling system, maybe... |

Those are main reason why I am looking to upgrade. I also think you have heat issues. Work on cooling instead of getting new card. For starters try running with open case, just take the side panels off the case, see if that helps. Life is short and dinner time is chancy Eat desert first! |

Well that didn't take long to go back on my previous post, just managed to pick up a month old GTX560 on eBay this evening for -ú75.
Must have been fate as when I searched the listing only had 2 mins left to run.
Now to work out if my PSU is up to the job!!!!

Unless I read wrong, I noticed the OP is using an IDE ATA hard drive, that thing has got to be pretty old, he should look into its impending demise he should at least change to SATA HDD, and those things are not that expensive. Open the case and blow out the dust. It can cause a lot of heat issues.
A new HDD is a good idea aswell, somehow that IDE monstrosity feels slow... Though it won't impact ingame performance THAT much.
As for graphics, gtx 560 is your best bet at the moment. It's "somewhat" futureproof, being able to run BF3 at max settings comfortably, and not too expensive. |

Info on power supply has been updated.
I don't think it's cooling. I have nothing below graphic card and on top of it is Noctua NH-D14, keeping my processor properly cooled :)
HDD is Western Digital hard disk WD6400AAKS it has interface: SATA 3 Gb/s Form Factor: 3.5", 7200 rpm Capacity : 640 GB Cache: 16 MB
Err...can any of you recommend any 3th party cooling systems for graphic cards? |

Mine is usually that hot even new, but it's still perfectly safe up to 99 degrees so no worries. Budget is a bit tight for aftermarket cooling right now, but I want to get it upgraded eventually. |

If you are referring to drivers of graphic card, they are latest and not really an issue since this card has been acting like this from day one.
Upgrading cooling of graphic card is less expensive and fastest solution. |

eve doesn't take much to run, but AMD 6850 or Nvidia 560 would be fine and should be decent prices now. i know the 6850 is hovering at $150 usd
however, if i read this right your using an ATA hard drive, i think eve benifits from faster HDD speeds... but, you have a socket 1556 could you just get a normal HDD? i'm not sure.
anyways, nvidia 460 gtx, 560, 560ti or AMD 6850/6870 would be fine then save for new HDD, or worse case scenario new computer. |

read through comments, do you have an aftermarket cooler for your CPU? i would get a good one. also clean out your case and maybe add another fan. |

You should not need aftermarket cooler for you card unless you are doing heavy overclocking one thing you could try is to take off the stock cooler and reapply some fresh cooling paste. |

Well, after some research and asking around I've bought this card GeForce-« GTX 560 Ti 448 Cores FTW
Here is the link with more details: http://www.evga.com/products/pdf/012-P3-2066.pdf
Here is the link with hardware comparison: http://www.hwcompare.com/11194/geforce-gtx-560-ti-448-vs-radeon-hd-5770/
SO in theory this new card should be somewhat better then the card I currently have. |

In practice it will run almost twice as fast compared to your old card and also run cooler (70C-75C). Your PSU is already oversized for your needs, a 550W PSU would have already been more than enough. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/User:Akita_T http://eve-search.com/stats/Akita_T |
