Ok so its not actuly up and running yet but i thought id throw the idea out there...
The bordom of mining is a pain most people feel, ok maby not everyone but its a mundane task none the less. My idea to make this a little more palletable is the first official Eve player.
The eve player would be a AV Player within the game client, allowing you to select video/audio files that are local to your machine, and watch them in a small window inside the game. This wouldn put any stress on the severs as it is all client side.
Who wouldnt want to listen to a little of thier own music, or have a few music videos running in a little window. Hell if you buy films from download site you could sit there and watch lord of the rings while your mine.
Ok the window inside the client woulnt be huge but its just that little somthing that makes it more fun.
I Know there are means and ways of doing all this outside the game, like havin eve run in a window and Windows media player in the bottom corner or somthing. Im just thinking it would be cool to have the feature built into the game.
Whats more as Broadband/Internet connections get faster, and technology progresses there no reason at sometime in the future, that this feature could be utilized by CCP for annountment, hell even corpration video promotions. Theres always room for CCP to put the odd advert in too.....c'mon you know the quafe advert would be as cool as the coca cola ones on telly lol :)
Anyway it was just a though, any comment/features peeps wanna post would be cool :)

Um you can do this allready - hit esc, mute the game audio, play your own music... tada |

Guess no one is interested in the EVE Player then, oh well it was a nice idea :)

alt+tab is your friend. or think about getting multi-mon setup.
Personnaly given the status of our oh so useful IGB. I dont know how well an AV player would work within the client. One must consider all the codecs and compressions that are out there today. It would be a difficult endevour to say the least.
A simple MP3 player on the other hand should be pretty easy to implement. iirc the music in the game is in mp3 format within its .res

Agreed, maby a simple ingame MP3 player would be handy. As time goes on the posibility of adding a video feature could be introduced, but i guess a first stepping stone a ingame MP3 would be a hit in the right direction :)

I've a better idea: totally rework mining so is actually funny & active?
IMO mining should be a mixture of exploration & hauling. You would have to seek belts (not fixed belts), anchor some sort of mining drones which will recolect for sometime and then go and recolect it. Hisec ore should bge seriouslly limited so most mining should be done in low/0.0 and requiere teamwork (scouts, haulers and defence).
Think like moon mining but much less work and not fixed locations.

I realize you want something in game, but what I do personally is
A) window'd mode (I didn't realize people even played full screen)
B) hulu.com run a movie, (free) click the pop-out icon makes a small lil window, dock it on the lower right, eve upper left
C) Mine
this doesn't address your problem, but what I WOULD like would be the ability to have eve oriented radio stations (Eve radio for example, there are others, but not off the top of my head) so you could have eve corps dedicated to broadcast who play their channels within the client, this would allow specific stations in accordance with the channels/chat type menu. Without having to resort to out of game methods, I could click on "War Report" and listen to the battle front lines off in 0.0 when something huge pops off.
