There simply aren't enough newbs, anti-pirates or miners in lowsec to satiate us all so we turn on each other. Many of us will gang up on occasion and be friends yet still engage and fight each other when the opportunity arises. It is a very weird love/hate thing. Most pirates go by the rules that you are ONLY safe if: (1) You are in gang or have a short-term temporary agreement to work together for an engagement. (2) You are in corp. (3) You are blue. Ironically on my pirate character, I would often kill more pirates than on this character, which i've always played as anti-pirate. Plus they seemed cry worse than carebears, which could be amusing.
