From time to time I encounter an order that is backing up another order. I used to think that it was a bug but I've seen it too many times now, at outposts and in Empire. I am wondering if someone can explain how to set it up.
Let me give an example. You have the following sell orders:
Item ........ Qty ......... Sell Price Tritanium . 4,000,000 . 4.00 Tritanium ..... 50,000 . 1.00
If I buy 50k units at 1.00 isk then you would expect that when the market refreshes, there would only be one order remaining with 4m units @ 4.00 isk. But I've seen situations where, when I buy the 50k units, I receive all my minerals but when the markets refresh the larger order has been decreased by 50k units and there is still an order available for 50k units at 1.00 isk. The end result looks like this:
Item ........ Qty ......... Sell Price Tritanium . 3,950,000 . 4.00 Tritanium ..... 50,000 . 1.00
In this case, I have the ore I bought and there are still two sell orders on the market. Does anyone know how to set this up?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Neja

What you say will never happen. What DOES happen is the opposite
Item ........ Qty ......... Sell Price Tritanium . 4,000,000 . 1.00 Tritanium ..... 50,000 . 4.00
In this case, if both orders are in the same station, if you try to buy the 50K unities at 4.00 ISK you will end paying 4.00 ISK per unit to the guy who placed the 1.00 ISK order for 50K of his units.

Sorry but that does not seem to make any sense whatsoever. If you bought from the lower order, the lower order should diminish. You can't accidentally buy from a higher buy order no matter what. Accidentally being through some sort of game bug.

<shrug> Say what you will. And I agree that it doesn't make sense. That's why I admitted up front that I thought it was a bug. But I have bought from the lower priced order and watched the quantitiy refilled from the higher priced order. |

No offense taken. What I am describing is hard to believe at best. The next time I spot it, I'll post a system name, the comodity, quantities and prices involved, along with the date so that we can all play with it.

I guess the question would be... did you pay 1ISK or 4ISK? :)
The mechanics work the other way, if you tried and buy 50K at the 4ISK price it will sell you the 50K 1ISK order, but you pay 4ISK so the seller gets a little bonus.
Check your logs find out if you paid what you thought you paid.

This, tbh. Granted manipulating a video is not much more difficult than "photoshopping" a still image. But those that would not believe it, could still go there and check as long as you also post the info on the forum ASAP.

I've seen this behaviour twice so far (trying to clear low price sell order) I petitioned it once, but all I got was some random answer about market mechanic (answer had nothing to do with the behaviour I explained (in detail)). I still think it's a bug.

If you see this happening I think you should do a bug report, possibly with logserver running.
It is very strange and I think that knowing what the seller is getting is very important. If, in your example. he is getting 4 isk and you are paying 1 the difference come from thin air, if you are deducted 4 isk for each purchase when you have selected 1 isk you are somewhat cheated.

Edited by: Alz Shado on 20/10/2008 19:44:40 NPC sell orders don't run out. If the time remaining is 364 Days, it's an NPC sell order.
Also, check to make sure the order you're buying from is in the right station and is within your purchasing range.
