So i've noticed a few things while ratting and I'm sure it is probably just me being supersticious but if anyone can confirm that I am wrong that'd be great.
*First off, if you kill all the anomalies in the system you are ratting in it seems that the chance of getting higher bounty spawns with a larger number of bs's in them increases.
*Also it seems like you get more faction spawns when you have more bs spawns in system.
*Another thing I was curious about was the fact it seems like the longer I've been ratting in a system the spawns get better. By this I do not mean the overall spawns in system..obviously the spawns will be better because I chain. However, it does seem like the new spawns that spawn each time I go through are consistently better after I've been in a system ratting for a while.
Is all this just non-sense, or have other people had similar luck with the strategies listed above?
Just checked my screen and I got a steele...ooooh yea. Anyway the strategies we use must not be too bad because my friend got a brynn while we were ratting the other week
cheers =p -Pristine

the basic of you ratting and 0.0 mining are explained in my bloggies
here
it covers chaining and what i believe to be the % increaser to get officer spawns this is still not 100% about the officer spawns though

Well, first off i do appreciate your post. However, most of your information seems to be common sense to me. I've made billions ratting in 0 space. My best suggestion is to build up your 3x bs chains until you have a system full of them..by then you will have gotten a shadow spawn, dread, dark blood, w/e it may be you will have likely gotten one. Once full of good spawns(this is more of an if full of good spawns(3x bs's)) you start off by killing your lowest profitting bs spawn, and continue chaining the rest. You just try and replace your lowest profitting spawns with better ones until you have all spawns that net you 3mil or more per kill, which in some regions is really easy to do. This alone will make you a lot of isk, but it also seems that if you were ratting for an entire day(as i do on occasion, and depending on the system/region you are in, you could expect to see anywhere between 1-3 faction spawns in a day. As far as officer spawns are concerned they are so unlikely to get that as you said you may not see one if you are ratting for an entire year. I've been fortunate enough to kill tai rei, and setele. Neither dropped any good officer mods, but both filled my cargo hold with valueable shadow/DB items. And i mean full like where i had to dump ammo to fit it all. Hopefully this helps. As for my topic i was more just curious if those other things i listed are true or not =/

Also i would like to note that a small system doesnt really have anything to do with it. You want the biggest system that you can clear before spawns start reappearing. For instance in a deimos with an ab you do as system of about 15belts or so pretty easy. In an ishtar it is less, but you can salvage everything, and clear anomalies that you find as well, which i beleive makes the ishtar the best ship for ratting in 0. Not to mention is can do any damage type so the region/type of rats you are attacking does not matter.

A dev said awhile ago that chaining trashes the loot tables constellation wide.
He also said, the more killing, the more likely an officer spawn will occur.
However, if you have been chaining, the officer loot will suck.

That makes statistical sense. If you chain you "reserve" that belt with the BS chain, so no chance of an officer or faction spawn in that belt. If all belts are chained then you'll never have anything better than what you're chaining. So if you kill everything in every belt, eventually something good must appear.
Originally by: CCP Tuxford Its been fixed. All in all its one of the more embarrassing mistakes I made, but it made game design laugh. Now lets never speak of this again.

Im guessing that what the dev said is because first off, it would be kind of silly if you were chaining a 3x grand admiral spawn and getting a lot of prototype rails, whereas that kind of thing would also have an adverse affect on the market in that the more expensive named items would go down in value, and it would also be a little silly if you were getting 5mil off bounties on a spawn and 5mil off the loot every time.. that would stack up a little bit too fast. Thank you very much for the new info though, that was new to me. Also, do they actually have a reason like i said, or is it because of a glitch type thing? But as far as just making raw isk goes, my statement about how to chain properly still stands =) If you like to loot and salvage id just kill everything and not leave a single ship. I bet it affects salvage too because quite often when chaining you'll get dogshit for salvage after a while...thanksa bunch!

People often seem to forget about rats at gates, too... You gotta chain those if you want it to come back at a belt. If you kill a good spawn at a gate it'll never come back.

Dunno about what a dev has evr said but in my experience if you chain then you maximise your isk per hour ratting with the effect of greatly reducing your chance at an officer/faction spawn. Killing everything though nets a guarenteed faction spawn if you can do it for at least 4 to 5 hours in a row with it somtimes happening a bit moar often. Made myself a small fortune in serpentis mods waaay back in my early days of running the belts in Ane. However I've never had an officer spawn though once I did run across an officer wreck with a bookmark named 'made ya look.. lulz :-P' inside.

Officers spawns are very rare indeed these days. Not to mention the top officer because i havent seen anything for quite a while. I would mind if CCP would like to explain this nerf if is possible.

Just means we pvp'ers who don't like ratting has a chance for officer loot as well

Relatively les officers showing up could be explained by there being a maximum to the amount that spawns in a certain period of time ?

You can't "Chain" a belt like the old days anymore. Got nerfed after a guy fitted a bs with permatank and perma smartbombs. Fired it up in a belt where frigs stayed out of bombing range but the BS came into it. Rats would spawn faster and faster after they died untill they virtually instaspawned and earned him billions everyday.
He got permabanned and the rats were hit with the nerfbat.
Todays ratting technique is known as "Farming". ----

I got tired ratting when most of the belts were emptied of battleships. I started to kill systematically every rat I found from belts, I did this very long time, whining in corp chat about some idiot who killed all the cruisers/frigs. I did it over a month and they still don't know who did it, hihi.
