Why the game doesn't warn you when somebody has initiated a Lock on you , only when you are targeted and its too late to do anything , it think this is very unfair and waste a tactical advantage you can have from your cloaking device
any constructive opinions ? *********************************************

I think it is a great idea, it would have saved a large percentage of my ship losses. However I think it would only add to people crying about cloaking. So I'm going to have to say I am against it.

To elaborate, you are hearing your ship targeting them back. The process does not begin untill thier lock is complete. Furthermore, the vast majority of skilled players have disabled the target back functionality so as to avoid accidents and those annoying people who target you randomly in highsec... ç¦ |

The icon blinks yellow once he has a target lock on you. The icon blinks red once he starts shooting on you.
There is no indication while he is targeting you (neither should there be imho).

Well that makes no sense whatsoever. What the heck is the point of a passive targeter then? To conceal the brief moment between a target lock and weapons fire? Very useful (but then we already knew it was up there in the Most Useless Modules list anyway).
I can't see a problem with knowing someone is initiating a target lock and having proper warning; if one cares about it so much, use a passive targeter, which is what the things are for? ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... once you have a lock, a passive targeter keeps the form knowing. This is good in some cases where you're waiting but want to be able to jam them needbe if they begin to align out. I also use it with ship scanners to get an idea of what ships are armed with when gathering intel ... ------

Well that's something I hadn't thought of - though I had thought scanning meant you always got notified once someone actually scanned you, or maybe the people scanning me just didn't care if I knew or not.
Regardless, I don't see the problem with knowing if someone is locking you in the general case. As you highlight, there are reasons why even once locked, you don't want them to know, in which case a passive targeter is perfect - I don't see why equally if they want anonymity whilst locking they should have to use a passive targeter as well. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... Edited by: Kao Lei on 22/10/2008 18:05:14 Using a passive targeter and a scan module does not tell your victim that he's being scanned at all. It's completely stealth except for the scanning noise.
Now, if your target is not alone, he might think he got scanned when he heard the noise, or he thinks one of the other people around him did.
If he didn't hear the sound, he doesn't know that he got scanned at all.
Another thing I don't know that works is if you are using a passive targeting module on a cov ops ship. Can he still cloak or does your passive lock stop him from cloaking? If it would stop him, he really has a 'wtf?' moment

yes passive lock prevents cloaking
biggest problem i see is this, start to target bomber, bomber gets warning and cloaks before you get a lock. bomber uncloaks, damps, and waits for lock warning, gets it and cloaks again before lock is acquired. same with recons and so on. you have just moved a dyeing class of ships to overpowered with one simple change.

There is no such thing as a lock warning. You either see that someone has locked you or you don't see anything. You cannot see if someone is in the process of locking you.
If the recon/bomber is cloaking before your lock gets through, he's probably anticipating you're trying to lock him and cloaks/decloaks quickly to be sure.
