Well, same reason the ships in Star Wars/Trek are white, so that the enemy can more easily see the ships and so get a target lock much quicker. Or maybe cause an all black ship with no windows might be boring to look at.

Perhaps when we are docked we could use the redundent bridge or have a conferance hall on board. the larger the ship the grander the location or at least the bigger, especially on carriers :) I think its fitting that a pod pilot leaves his pod to communicate to others. It is a question of manners.

I mean, we get to cheat death with no more than loss of implants if we are smart, yet these poor bastards die a final death each time. New Eden must be so overpopulated for so many people to sign up for ship crews, knowing they could be used in a suicide gank ship at a moments notice. Think of their families! You don't see you ISK paying for the Departed Crews families of New Eden! I know! Donate you ISK to me and my charity, protecting the families of suicide gank ship crews

Smaller ships would be crewless, however something like a Battleship or Capital ship would need someone onboard to man certain systems. Hands of a Killer is such an example. It was said that only SOME frigates don't have crew, but everything else does. Battleships have thousands of crew members. --

Some survive multiple ship explosions, some dont. They evacuate before the ship blows up through escape pods. Serving on a Pod Pilot's ship is a very lucrative bussiness in eve, dont forget pod pilots are rich beyond imagionation and "immortals". Read the book and chronicles people, its all there :)
