Maelstrom is pretty good. Not as flexible as raven for damage type but it has a stronger tank and can reach pretty good dps with autocannons. Range is not so much an issue as many make it out to be, i'm missioning for thukker and the adversaries are mostly minmatar and gallente navy which are both close range so an afterburner suffices.

Not much does well compared to a Raven, tbh.
Projectiles were a bit crap even when I was around the last time...

Oh my. Well unless you are an alt, fly your Caldari ships if you want to play this game. Minmatar is getting nerfed. Trust me Amarr sucks till all the skills that have any effect on cap use are at 5. And Gallente, my alt is now a falcon alt.
The Raven will be more agile than a Typhoon. Count yourself lucky that you rolled a 3 charisma achura and just go caracal, drake, raven for missions, and train falcon and cerb for pvp. Seems to be what the company wants, a homogeneous game.

Yes. Put in some effort and you'll make up a lot of the time you loose shooting battleships on the small stuff. Just don't think you can barge in there full of cap mods, permarunning a (X)large booster and do just fine (cookie cutter cruise Raven style setups doesn't work very well with anything Minmatar)

Maybe so, but the new "Buzz Kill" mission in a Mealstrom was kind of hilarious though (pop..pop....popop...pop)

Typhoon is very nice, but you'll need some npc statoin nearby to restock ammo and such. Never used the maelstrom for pve tho, but i've been tempted to train for ze raven a long time but never did it.

Well, it looks like CCP is undoing the Minni BS mass nerf So if you want to convert to Minmatar, we welcome you. Besides you don't want to become just another Raven.
So with that, I would suggest the Phoon and Mael. Mael for Guristas and Angels, Phoon for all the rest. |

Cruise Ravens will suck now for everything. For Cald it will be (high sp) Torp Golem or Nighthawk for PvE.

I used fleet tempest with T2 1200mm's and tank was one pithum a-type medium shield booster and one pith a-type small shield booster and four hardeners... Ok that was way too much, but hey it was permarunning and tanked like 1500+ against angels permarunning and still was able to fit three gyros Too bad that pithum a-type medium shield booster was 1.4 B ISK
Fleet tempy is better than maelstrom, damage bonus leaves two highs for drone range mod and then perhaps smartbomb or neut or tractor beam.
Of course the toon what I had was nearly max skilled on his duty, and minmatar pve needs much more skills than caldari pve.. Soo.. That's why I say that train caldari bs IV, missile skills to III and shield skills IV. It's about month(+/-) of training and good enough for pve.. You will not be doing 40 M ISK per hour, but you sure are going through the missions easily.
Gotta say that typhoon with t2 siege launchers and t2 800mms and t2 heavydrones is fun too.. Or replace heavy drones with sentries and all frigs are going pop, pop and pop!

So no race is safe from them. You need to learn to adapt to your ammo. It is not caldarie easy 4 choices...
use gyros and tracking enhancers.
You have to know yours missions a bit more, because you are either ranged or close and get shafted if you have long range in a short range mission. But that is mostly for lvl 4.

Very true. Train arty and AC's up so yo can switch between the two types. Also, if you're flying a Typhoon, train torps up as well. |

Edited by: Ghengis Tia on 24/10/2008 14:42:53 Phased Plasma works well against Sansha/Bloods. Range penalty is not as bad as EMP ammo.
With large arty the key is transversal velocity. (You can set up a column in your overview to track this) Head directly at or directly away from target, guns/launchers blazing. Do not orbit. Ideal is 60m/sec or below. |

typhoon is good.. long range fitting would be with 4x cruise t2, 4x 1200mm t2 arty, 5x sentry drones and armor tank :P can even passive shield tank if you want to :P |

The maelstrom is a very good missioning ship, fill the mids with tank and cap rechargers, lows with weapon upgrades and it will eat angel missions faster than any raven can and with less skills. But it isn't as versatile as has been said. I recommend 8x1200mm's, 1x large shield booster (XL uses too much cap and is unnecessary due to ship bonus), 2 specific hardeners, cap rechargers, 3x gyros and 2x tracking enhancers. Medium drones and a pair of webbing drones in the bay also make life easier. 3x CCC's for rigs are best in my experience. Amarr also have great missioning ships if you stick to amarr space. Tachyon apoc for the win against sansha/blood raiders . |
