Hi All,
I'm new to capital ships (me and my mining partner have kept our operation small, just the two of us). A few questions, probably about Capital ships in general, but it'll help us decide if the Orca is something we should start saving / training for:
These questions are based on the recent dev article: http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=597
* It says it has a ship bay...does that mean we can fly it out, and then take our hulks and mine? Meaning, if there's two of us, do we park the Orca, mine, and use it as a base? * If both of us are mining, is the ship active? Or does someone have to stay inside it at all times?
I guess those are really the only two questions we have. Again, sorry if this is totally naive, like I said, we're pretty small time...this is the first time we've considered getting into the capital ship market.

It means that you can store ships in the bay for transport. And, once you get to your mining spot, undock the hulks and mine. But, the Orca does have to be manned by someone in order to get all of the bonuses from it. You could leave it, but then it would be sitting in space uselessly.

Someone has to be in it. Preferably someone with good command skills.

Not to mention that if you just leave it there, someone's going to steal it. If they're targeting it to cost 400 million in components, you can bet it's going to be selling for 500 million minimum, and probably more in the early days. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Yeah, that's another question we have...if you take it out, then leave it sitting there as you're mining nearby, can someone else just roll up and take it?
Again, totally Cap-ship naive.

Yes, any ship can be taken by anyone with sufficient skills to pilot it if it's just left sitting around. ---- --- --- My views don't represent those of my corporation or alliance. |

336m build cost at current cap mat prices.
And with mex and trit staying pretty stagnant, I wouldn't expect it change much |

It has a drone bay, so why not use drones to mine whilst the others in the team mine with whatever they have? |

Because it would be better to have 5 small ECM drones in the bay to help you run |
