Edited by: Jael Markinsen on 29/06/2004 20:40:36 Heh, that thing would just be shy of the size of a shoebox, to put in your system. *just kidding* lol, But, oh yeah, that's definately where we are headed. SLI configs once again, ATI will be along to offer a config too I would think, ATI and Nvidia are always gunning for each other to one-up. Yeah think I first heard of this around the E3 show with alienware coming up with a SLI config and braggging it will increase performance by some odd number in the video graphics department. Which is no doubt, but, they also said, I believe that they are not going to license their configuration. pretty interesting for sure.
EDIT: SLI= Scan Line Interleave, which 3DFX invented as a consequence of their voodoo2 cards being only 2D If I'm correct.

..no. Voodoo2 cards were only 3D acceleration cards. They required a 2d card to work I think (smth like a S3 Virge video card based of 2mb or even 4mb...) SLI was a way to improve the Voodoo2 performance. -------------------

yes, that's correct grim, i had to go back in the day to double check. it was indeed a 3d accelerator. the 3dfx days were some great ones.

SLI on Voodoo2 == Scan Line Interleave (Each Voodoo2 rendered half of the image scan lines) SLI on 6800 == Scalable Link Interface (The screen is divided vertically in two parts, each 6800 render one part. Where the screen is divided is based on some smart algorithms (polygon count, bump maps and stuff like that) to make sure the two cards get about the same workload.) |

i think he ment the 3DFX Vodoo monster, where you were able to link up 2 of the same cards to get a mega monster....still you needed to have a 2d grafik card as these cards were only 3d accelerators too. but that's what he ment when he opened the thread i guess

This would look pretty hot with the nice 30" 2560 x 1600 resulution flat pannel display from Apple. Or perhaps the 23" 3840 x 2400 resolution Flat pannel display from Viewsonic...hmmm all these difficult choices we have to make.

With dual 6800 one gets four DVI-outputs. Time for the devs to make EVE support four monitors?

And plug your computer (with it's extra large power supply), and the 4 monitors onto one electric strip.. Sounds toastey.

oooo how soon can I shel out $1.5k for one of these
seriously, you could build a kickass system for the price of just that(those) cards.

If you think thats expensive solution. Check out alienwares site. They got a computer with dual PCI-E's that can run 2 cards in it. And they just need to be the same type doesn't matter what speed if not mistaken. You could pick low ends of the card and it work.
Quiet intresting to see what will happen in the future (things next summer its time to to a full blown upgrade on the system). Fear The Bunny
