Hey all,
I was wondering if there are any decent Amarr frigates out there. I have been flying gallente interceptors for over a year and when comparing them to amarr interceptors they just seem overall better to use in comparison. I am flying a heretic over an eris because the heretic does seem to be a better dictor than the eris and it is still a decent dictor in general. Also, I am wondering about the Amarr EAS because I have heard some good things about its ability to take out interceptors. So I was wondering what are some good small Amarr ships to possibly try out? Or is it just a better idea to go straight to Amarr cruisers and stick with the gallente frigate line. |

The Eris, although the fastest 'dictor, is generally considered to be the least combat-worthy. They're great suicide bubblers because they can be made to go fast for fairly cheap (i.e. T2 modules only, no rigs or faction/complex modules), but aside from that their split-weapon bonuses and slot/hardpoint layout leave much to be desired. The Sabre is, well, the Sabre; it's fast, does great DPS, and it's the coolest looking of the bunch. The Heretic, especially one firing precision lights, is a great choice against 'ceptors and other fast movers, but it can't match the Sabre for raw DPS. The Flycatcher is somewhat 'meh' overall given it's low speed, but it's 5 mids mean it can keep a nasty bag of EWar tricks up its sleeve.
I don't have any experience with EASs in general, but Amarr 'ceptors and AFs are a nice bunch. The Vengence and Malediction will fit well with your Heretic-related missile skills. Crusaders make very good dogfighters and Retributions can deal really good damage, but both are hampered somewhat by a lack of mid-slots; while this does reduce their overall PvP utility somewhat, it's easily compensated for by flying in a gang.
tl;dr version: If you can already fly a Heretic, you should be happy with the T2 Amarr frigates. |

I friend of mine flies a Crusader, and its sooo nasty it makes me jealous. I am even considering training amarr frigs just for that and I already fly gallente and minmatar ones. I'm just hesitating between trying out the crusader or the crow next.

sentinel is good vs other frigs, good as a mini-curse in a small roaming gang. It drains cap rather quickly, but dies if someone sneezes at it the wrong way. Can carry 12 light drones, and that defiantly adds to its powers.
Sader is the best interceptor. It pwns other ceptors, including crow. Isnt the fastest, but it gets the job done more often than not. I would prefer to be in a sader than any other ceptor.
The Af line is meh mainly because af's are meh. Ishkur is a good af though for most things... retri can do 0.0 ratting well, and vengeance tanks plex's well.
Heretic is the same as all dictors; it drops a bubble, and then tries to evade enough fire to drop another bubble... Useless in lowsec (use a sader instead), and is only as useful as other dictors in 0.0.
Malediction is considered one of the best dogfighting ceptors, although I think the sader wins there. It has enough mids for mwd/web/scram, and the speed and ehp to back it up. The reliance on close range missiles, however, kills its effectiveness against larger ships. Capless weapon system is a large boon, especially when you see the cap problems a low skilled sader has...
Amarr has a powerful lineup for most frigates... but gallente also does... Take your pick, you wont regret either too much.

Well there were a couple of reasons why I asked. I want to fly the heretic over the sabre (even though I can fly both) for the reason that heretic is loads cheaper, and I can fit the heretic to go faster than I can fit the sabre. A second reason is that although the heretic has less DPS than the sabre it can hit from farther away, which I find advantageous when going up against larger targets.
As for the crusader and malediction, the reason I ask about these two in comparison to taranis and ares is because a)the ares can go faster and be cap stable comparative to the malediction because of its extra low slot and b) the crusader does not have the three mid-slots that I find to be required for a dogfighting ceptor (to fit the web). So can someone explain why these are still decent ceptors compared to the two gallente ones? |

Someone posted an almost cap stable beam laser fit for the crusader. It's INCREDIBLY AWESOME for dogfighting, since you're able to stay outside other frig and ceptors webrange (and usually optimal too) and still nail them down. |

Edited by: Karch on 24/10/2008 11:53:02 Edited by: Karch on 24/10/2008 11:51:19 I posted my crusader setup with my alt that takes on most other ceptors with ease.
High - 4x t2 DLB Mid - t2 MWD, t2 Point low - t2 OD x2, t2 Nanofiber, t2 Cap Pwr Relay
Rigs are up to you, but I like the aux thrusters.
With that setup I get 7200m/s a 24k optimal of I use Aura crystals, or 20k with microwave (microwave better for dogfighting due to tracking). It's pretty damm cap stable as well, but if you dont mind only going 6k/s or so, CCC rigs make the ship very cap stable.
You could also go 1 Aux thruster rig, and 1 CCC rig. Pretty close to cap stable running everything. Crow's and Maledictions (at present on TQ) can't touch it less spending billions on implants and faction mods.
The Taranis is an amazing ceptor though either using ion blaseters (which requires you to get another ceptor webbed) or using a rail setup. Personally regardless what interceptor I fly on my characters, I generally dont use a web, and I prefer 125mm t2 rails on the taranis. ---------
Edit: I used to be in Quantum industries long time ago (year or two back) how goes things in that minning/mission/production corp?

Thanks for the replies!
Originally I was only looking at pulse lasers as an option for the crusader. I totally overlooked the fact that it can also fit four beam lasers. I was wondering where you got such good range with the beams because I was having trouble fitting them to fire from outside web range. Thanks a lot of the info on that. I will buy a couple and play around with them although I feel the blasterranis will still be my favorite ceptor. Thanks again. Does anyone have any information on the sentinel though? Is it useful for anything or should not even be considered like all other EAS.

Crusader is an amazing ship, arguably the best combat interceptor around(although I personally favor the tanaris a bit).
Malediction is a solid ship, great tackle boat as he it has the long range disruptor along with a huge tank for a frigate class ship.
Vengeance is alright, rocket damage is pretty bad to begin with and it's a damn slow and flies like a brick.
Retribution is ****ing amazing... if it had 1 more mid, *sigh*.
Sentinel is a pimpin little ship, and gets you into a playstyle similar to the curse if your headed that way.
CovOps and Stealth Bombers I'm not familiar with since I really don't use or try to use them. |
