Edited by: Stork DK on 24/10/2008 07:01:27 Hoegen Tribute The Hoegen style Caracal fitting is an early design. Engineered for the highest cost/effective ratio possible. Effecient as both a long range support platform for smaller vessels and for solo encounters with similar sized opponents. The rather large shield buffer coupled with the multispectral ECM allows for outlasting the more heavy hitters out there with a nice random 20 seconds neutralizing of the opponents onboard weapon and electronic warfare systems. Noticeably lacking a onboard propulsion system and depend on perfect warpin points or agressors burning into webrange. (Note: Alignment advised at all times) Recommended not to be used in nullsec space. Threat level: Medium
Roaming The Roaming Caracal fitting is designed as a fully insureable hit-and-run gang vessel. Best used in packs and rather inefficient on its own. When used in fleets exceeding four or five ships, pilots are advised to switch the propulsion jamming modules to either more defensive fittings or a different kind of electronic warfare depending on friendly ship fittings and expected hostiles. Unlike the Hoegen Tribute design this cruiser packs the much praised microwarpdrive which is extreemely valuable in the hit-and-run tactics where you often need to speed either towards or away from hostiles, gates or stations. Due to the microwarpdrive this setup is useable in nullsec space where you are likely to end up in warp disruption bubbles. Threat level: Low
Pippan's Modified Caracal The Pippan style Caracal fit is the newest design available. Created for sheer damage and stationary battlefields. Utilizing five Tech II Heavy Assault Missile Launchers and ammunition created by caldarian rocket scientists. Coupled with a ballistic control system and dual Tech II Hobgoblins, the raw power of this design leaves enemies staggering on their heals after receiving the first hits. The cost effectiveness is greatly reduced to achieve this sort of damage potential and requires immense amount of skillpoints and credits compared to the previous fitting designs. Due to the lack of a microwarpdrive and the rather limited range this setup is not recommended in nullsec. Threat level: High ----- Signature unavailable. |

Edited by: Cautet on 24/10/2008 08:56:12 I would personally use tracking disrupters instead of ecm. Ecm outside of specialist ships doesn't really work as well as ecm drones.

cant see the point of DC on a caracal. If you're in structure, you;re probably dead anyway. BCUs....
And anyone who fits rigs on a caracal- the main attribute of which is being a decent all round pvp cruiser BUT fully insurable, is nuts! |

emm... the shield resist rigs dont cost anything so not fitting them is kinda fail.. like leaving 3 lowslots empty because you dont want to fit mods because they cost isk |

Edited by: Nexus Kinnon on 24/10/2008 14:18:16 With all skills V, an unbonused unnamed multispec I has a 19.23% chance of jamming another cruiser. (I just used an omen as an example, I don't know if other cruisers have higher/lower str) A near 20% chance of taking your opponent out of the fight for 20 seconds isn't too bad. |

Edited by: Cautet on 24/10/2008 14:43:35 These are a few things I think need to be considered when fighting in a Caracal.
You aren't going to be stopping his drones with ECM. If you speedfit with no rigs you can reduce most damage from med drones. Tracking distrupters and having some speed (afterburner or mwd) will help reduce damage from turrets more than ECM
Comparing your fit to a plated close range cruiser:
ECM: thoraxes often use 5*med ECM drones (med ecm drones strength around 1.5 with 5 drones at any one time (around 10% first drone, 9% second, 8% third, 7% fourth, 6% fith (total= 40% chance of being jammed I think). Say on average they take a cruiser out for maybe 45% of the fight just with their drones. [Sensor Strength of cruisers - Caracal or Thorax 15, Omen 13, etc] Rupture slightly smaller drone bay can use a mix of light and med ECM drones and still keep caracal out of the fight for say 30-35% of the fight.
Damage: Rupture and Thorax up close hurts. Caracal up close not so much.
Keeping enemy in range: You need to be close in speed or in web range to keep enemy scrammed. The fitting with no speed therefore is only going to be able to hold down targets that want to get in close.
Hitpoints: Carcal tank is not great.
Up against a plated short range cruiser you need to do enough damage before they get in range or else kite them because at close range they outdamage your Caracal. Or get in range and use tracking disrupters to mess them up - tracking disrupters can reduce more of their non drone damage than putting med extenders on. Whether its enough to walk away is debateable - i'd prefer to kite personally.
My take on the caracal: Use the range. To use the range either use hml and forget about hams or use speed to kite. Tracking disrupters are usefull because your main targets will be turret ships. With a speed fit caracal you can hold down a plated thorax easy enough even without using speed rigs. Tank on a caracal come at a high price. bcu II's even come at a high price. |
