I'm cross-posting this from the Eve Technology Lab
But you are idea folks and perhaps you would like to contribute to the discussion either here or there.
I know this field is pretty well plowed -- earliest post I found was from Feb 2004. But what are the most important things you'd like to see in a ship fitting tool? EFT is certainly nice. Does it cover the ground? Some other program strike your fancy? Perhaps we can bring the ideas together in one place. Pointers to other threads / other board discussions are great too! |

First off, could you elaborate on what you mean by "cover the ground"?
And now for the opinion; I believe that EFT, for the most part, suffices as a ship fitting tool, but it hasn't been updated since Revelations, and so if there was a tool that updated immediately/sooner I'd definitely approve. |

Sure -- I just mean there's been a lot of discussion of ship fitting tools over the years. But I have not been able to find a good discussion in one place about what features make up a good one. That's what I was hoping for here.
What makes / would make a good ship fitting tool? |

Well for a good ship fitting tool Id say just look at EFT. If youre into number crunching you really only need three things: relatively easy access to all the module stats, accurate calculations for dps/tank/etc, and ability to save fittings for future reference. Anything more is wasted disk space.
When it comes to utilities, the simpler the better. Its basically the same reason Vista sales havent been all that hot, people dont care very much about features that dont have anything to do with the core functionality. |

1) easy integration with your own char stats to give correct skill increases on the ships basic stats.
2) easy browsing of modules, even if you don;t know their name
3) up to date infoirmation.
4) useful information about your set-up, i.e dps, shield recharge (graph would be nice as it is not linear), cap recharge (again with the graph).
anything else is a bonus really, maybe some way of sharing ship loadouts and checking required skills. D.
