This review says, among other things, "Players may not choose to play a Jovian character, though, until they have played Eve for some time."

Wow and I thought the Jovians were all focused on enlightenment and serenity, but according to this article they're like the Borg. |

Attention players, we're happy to announce the release of the new jovian player character race. Jovian players will be able to pilot advanced jovian ships, capable of decimating entire fleets of currently existing ships of similar size. However, we appreciate that this new change will require fine balancing as to not ruin the play experience of other, non-jovian players. Thus, we're pleased to announce a new section in the eve store, where jovian players may purchase skillpoints and ships for immediate use for their character. To maintain balance, and to prevent real money trade, jovian characters will not gain skillpoints over time as regular characters are able to, and jovian ships and equipment will be non-producable and non-listable on the market and contract system. We hope you love this bright new future for the eve universe, and happy flying.

Strill said "Wow and I thought the Jovians were all focused on enlightenment and serenity, but according to this article they're like the Borg." The Jove are split up into at least 8 groups/bloodlines all very different from each other. 3 examples are
"Unsullied Genetic engineering has through the centuries transformed Jovian society in every aspect imaginable. Many Jovians believe that enough has been done. The Unsullied is a group of Jovians that have rejected further generic experiments and instead adopt conventional methods to deal with sickness and old age. They are advocates of cyber-implants and want to use machines instead of genes in the search for better life.
Existentialists The Existentialists are the most energetic and vociferous Jovian group. They live for the moment and are always ready to experiment, even with their own bodies. To them, nothing is sacred. The Existentialists tend to have little to do with the other races, as they find them boring and uninspiring.
Puritan Many Jovians dream of returning to their genetic roots, now long since lost during the Shrouded Days. Those that are most active in their search for the 'untainted' Jovian genes are called the Puritans. In the hope of cleansing the nation of the Jovian Disease the Puritans try out ever-more outrageous genetic engineering stunts, often with quite unexpected results. But unlike the Existentialists the genetic engineering of the Puritans has the specific aim to return the human element to the Jovians, instead of being just narcissistic in nature."

You know, I've always been a bit disappointed we can't play as a Jovan, or like (as the article suggests) some sort of uplifted version of our original race.

I'm sorry if I haven't quite caught on yet, but is there anyway to become a Jove or is that race not able to be used by normal players? If not then how does a player become a jove? Thx to anybody who responds.

I don't know why anyone would give a rats rear end about playing a Jovian.
Unless CCP wants to introduce racially based advantages for flying certain ships, then there's not much point. The only reason to choose any one race over another is to get better stats in a certain area.
Unless you're a role player, but even then it's not so hard to metagame some BS story about why you're an Achura flying with CVA.

Well jovians are cool, you don't just select a race by stats? I don't see you being achura for example?

I'm against Jovians becoming a playable race myself. The idea of the Jovians is that they are superior to us. If they become playable either those who are Jovians are superior simply by being Jovians, or they are balanced to be the same as the rest of us and that just ruins the whole concept of them. I think it's better for them to remain unplayable.

There are two reasons I'm not Achura:
1) They didn't exist yet in December of 2005. (I actually really wanted to be a Brutor, but I studied the game a bit before starting and realized that the support skills would take forever, so I went with Sebiestor instead)
2) I really really really like the Minmatar ship designs. The Jaguar is pure sechs, the Tempest is one of the most innovative ship designs in any Sci-Fi, The Rupture and Cyclone are simply beautiful... I did it for the ships.
That, and I thought Amarr ships were some of the most unoriginal and boring ships I had ever seen in a game. So I got to play the best looking ships in the game and be the natural enemy of the race with the silliest looking ships in the game.
It was win win!

I remember before I created my character I checked out the back story of the Eve-o website and looked at all the races. I remember thinking that I wanted to be Jovian and was gutted when I couldn't pick the race.
I'm betting that on the 10th anniversary of EVE the Jovians come and wipe out the entire universe and on the killmail we'll get a code to play CCPs new game lol

Jove npc's; the ones where they can try out all that nice ai wizardry that they're not going to get to do with the the normal rats, lest the slaughter of mission runners and ratters cause eve to fall over.
