A while back, one of the Amarr Heirs, a very cruel man called Aritcio Kor-Azor, nearly lost his head in a public revolution. They allowed him to live, but made him go through utter agony, and it's very likely that something in his mind gave way for good.
Since his return to the throne Aritcio has proven himself a caring and thoughtful leader, albeit one with slightly psychotic tendencies. He wants his people to have a good life, lest they rise against him again, and he will go to great lengths to ensure their happiness.

Fallout beat me to the punch.
The latest chronicle introduces someone we know, except he's much different from his past self.
The story tells us something about the way he regards EVE's political situation. It also tells us something, yet again, about good people who do bad things (or vice versa, depending on your interpretation). I've been writing the stories for a couple years now, and there are some themes I find that I keep returning to, drawing from them as from a bottomless well of fresh water. This is one of them, and you'll see it again in a month's time, in "Under the Sea, the City".
(Two others are the ability to change and forgive, which I've brought up many times before, and the incredibly dark and brutal reality of capsuleerdom, both of whom will crop up in future stories.)

Nicely written. I particularly enjoyed how your narrator had such a passive observance of Aritcio - a detachment that seemed to play along nicely with the sanity (insanity?) of Aritcio and of the relationship between the planets populace and their leaders. Some nice juxtaposition there.

Sorry Abraxas, but with the new forum redesign, I have to bring this up:
"EVE Information Portal: All the latest news, announcements and archives from the EVE Online development team."
To me, this says, "get your news about changes to the game here". I look at the top line of the forums, and when I see the number of threads has changed, I come in here, looking for information on game changes.
I'm sorry, but is there ANY way we can get your stories moved to the "Eve Fiction" sub section? I mean, isn't that what's it's there for?
"EVE Fiction: ThereÆs a rich history behind New Eden, and itÆs still in the making."
To me, this is just an abuse of the "blue bars" putting you stories, or anything else not news, announcements or game-play related, in this section.
I'll prepare for the flames now, but, I believe my opinion on this is still valid...

I'd say that Cyrus has a point. This stuff is better suited to the fiction section.
That aside I liked this story. I have to admit while reading it I was very much reminded of the character of Londo Molari, from the TV series Babylon 5, and his apparently meek aide Vir.
I doubt this Londo will be meeting a G'Kar though, saintly or otherwise.

Social justice with teeth? I approve. It also meshes very well with the EVE universe in general which makes me a happy Amarrian.
On another note, I agree with the above posters--please move these topics to the fiction section. ------

+1 to the list of people who care about the Chronicles but also want to see them posted to the Fiction section.
One thing the story didn't cover: I'm curious to know how the 'new' Artico would be seen by the new Empress. Part of that might involve knowing what sort of internal reforms she is championing. Obviously many things and people are being shuffled about.

That was awesome! No really... light and darkness all wrapped into one. I loved it; the fact that Kor-Azor has the good of all is subjects in mind and is personally willing to remove filth from the system is just great.

I'd thought that Artico was something of a hollow man when his response to Jamyl's promise to return what others give to the empire was to begin a spate of "forgivings" but this has proven there is a lot more going on. Very nice. |

I, for one, welcome my new reformed lord.
A bit like Doriam, 'cept the part where you make the people happy or you end up clubbed by the Heir personally. While I personally would have preferred to see Aritcio be reformed from a plain bastard to a careful scheming bastard, the parts I can use in-character of the chronicle are even better. All hail the holy madman. Also, pretty large effect on few words: The power of the Heirs being rather ecclesial than secular, and filtered through the ranks of their administration. Fits very well on what has happened this far (the Holder Wars for example).
And yes. CCP, buff the EVE Fiction forum area!

I found this story very interesting and I think a story detailing his reformation or maybe a revisit by the speaker is in order. Regardless what happens though it would seem CCP has plans for Arkon, good story. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

I usually post in both forums, though busyness and a persistent cold scuttled the EVE Library post this time around. The Information Portal is good for letting a general audience know of new developments in the game - and that includes the chronicles - while the Library leans more towards roleplayers and those already steeped in EVE lore.
Originally by: Jowen Datloran An Amarr who do not molest children, is sexually abusive and a sadist? This must be one out of the norm.
Oh, I dunno. They also have a few ten year olds that seem pretty decent.

That, uh, would be me. With some notable exceptions courtesy of the talented CCP Gnauton, everything posted on the Chronicle page in the last two years has been written by me. A new story every two weeks. These days I tend to assume that people know this, but I'd be curious to hear if there was anyone else here who didn't.

One more thing: Anyone going to the Fanfest, don't hesitate to come up and say hi. I'll most likely be there all three days, in some shape or form. Look for a shaved head, full beard and expression of intense writerly cogitation, also known as "I wonder if I should have another beer right away."

Wonderfully done, Abraxas, as always. The reformed Articio is an interesting mix of ruthlessness and good intentions. One might say this is Kor-Azor's way of reaching out to "All These Wayward Children."
I think the Empress would approve. -------------------------------

Out of interest, is there a reason Aritcio has been featured in, I believe now three eve chronicles? He seems to be the only character in the eve universe that has recuring status. Heck not even the leaders of various factions seem to be in more than one chronicle. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Great Chronicle, "Speaker of Truths" had always been one of my favorites and I love the fact that we get to find out how things turned out for Aritcio. I'd love to see even more fiction about him at some future point. Cudos Abraxas, keep it up. --

A good read. I'm not sure why, but I liked this one a lot. The narrator was a brilliant twist on it, as the story didn't have that distance third-person feel. The topic of vigilante social justice was also a refreshing change from the hopelessness of that sadistic Caldari woman.

He's like Batman, but with more Heir and crazy added.
Like was said before, I'm glad this chronicle depicts an Amarrian in a good (or good-ish) light. Amarr need love too!
BTW Abraxas, I'm an aspiring writer myself, any hints on how to get an awesome job like yours?
EDIT: I forgot to mention the artwork for this one is absolutely amazing. Higher quality image than usual too!

He's been in two of mine: this one and The Speakers of Truth. He's an interesting fellow and is one of the figures who's part of the grand plot. Lots of people asked me what happened to him after Speakers, and I wanted to find out myself.
There are two other characters who have achieved recurring status, as you'll see if you read Black Mountain.

Start writing and never stop. It's not about the art, which takes care of itself, but rather about the craft, finishing what you start and getting it done on time, and not letting your ego get in anybody's way.
See you people at the Fanfest!
