I want to engage frigate PvP and am not sure waht ship to choose. The rifter is damn fast can hold quite some weapns and is dirt cheap. The claw is like 20 times as expensive. Is it THAT much better?
Could someone post a rifter and/or Claw PvP setup please?

Edited by: Estios on 01/07/2004 12:56:52 Start doing PVP in a Rifter, if you die over and over again without winning many then probably dont buy a Claw .
The Rifter is a great PVP frig still for its price. Id say start with that for sure.
Edit: Oh yeah you wanted a set up didnt ya. Well depends on range you wanna dogfight at ie 280's are nice if you are fast enough to keep your distance, 250's and ok around 10km but I like to get up close and personal with 200mm's (unless fighting a Taranis coz blasters own)
Id say
High: 3x200mm's, 1 x Missle Launcer/Small Nosferatu Mids: 1xMWD 1xWeb (or warp scrambler) Low: Depends how far from stations you operate ie I sometimes use small armour rep coz Im out in middle of no-where. Tough call without knowing what you do
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

Thanks. I'll start kitting out a rifter then amd try how it wors out. It's the best looking frigate ingame anyways. (To me at least. :) )

If you ask me, the Rifter is overall better than the Claw. First there is the price which you mentioned, but second there is the targetting range. The Claw has a very, very low targetting range, making it a pest to pilot, whereas a Rifter has a more comfortable one...

Would just like to poin tout that the claw is an interceptor, and the rifter is just a frig. The stats as is are not all that different, but you can take the claw further in the end.

I'm a claw pilot, and I'd say that it owns the rifter anytime. There is only one occasion I've had to warp out from 1on1 with a rifter, and that's when he had a webber and I had a scrambler.
The claw has much more pgrid, it has better damage, it has 2 more lowslots, which gives it better fitting possibilitys or cap recharge (warp scramber + mwd running for about 5 mins without having to turn them off is pretty nice). It takes longer time to lock the claw and it has more HP, and is thereoff more likely to survive.
It's certainly worth it, I've had a few now.

2xLight ion blaster, 2xstandard launcher, webber, 10mn ab, 2xpower core (rifter)
owned a maller, a vexor, and i got halfway through a taranis' armour with this setup before i got blown up. if i were in a claw, i woulda owned him. it really sucked losin 2 power cores, which cost as much as the ship itself..
few tips... dont use 280's (u cant track frigs with these), dont use 200mm's unless theyre scouts (standards are utterly useless even with the minmatar bonuses)..but if youre goin with named, u might as well go with modals(light ions)... dont use the mwd due to the sig penalty; i tested it in pvp and basically, ships can easily land 40-80 dmg per hit with medium sized weps when the mwd is activated. use a 10mn ab instead... run from drones cuz they havent been nerfed yet.. heavies can still melt u in seconds.. get all ab skills to lvl 4.
go into 0.0 with a decent setup, shoot at anything u see and decide if u like the rifter. if u like it, start training for the claw.. which im doin atm.
i think it's worth the 6 mill due to: significantly decreased sig radius, 475m/s base speed (fastest interceptor), 4 low slots, perfect highslot combination (jus like the rif: 3xturret, 2xmissile which owns any missile or blaster frig) and the significantly greater durability... the low targeting range is so irrelevant cuz youre fighting at 500m-20km anyways.

As stated a 10mn AB is far better than the MWD if you can fit, however without high skills I think you will struggle.
I use 200mm Scouts and have small proj 5 and min frigate 5 and therefore totally disagree about using blasters (my hybrid skills are poor) but for a newish character the last poster may be right.
Im keen to frigate duel you now though Prodigious

one little thing.. 125mm autocannon, have far higher tracking than the 200 and actually score hits while orbiting at 1 km and 1 kps
also, never, ever use blastera on a claw, no matter what your skills are.. it's not worth throwing away the 25% bonuses
