Well ive mulled over this again and again and this is what ive come to.... idea inbound.... beware.
Shouldnt the 'local nerf' be a new module. High slot module that enables a limited amount of time 'cloaked' from the local chat system... ie you dont show in local until that time has expired. This would serve both 0.0 and empire advocates, when at war wear the module and they dont know your there, when in 0.0 wear the module and they dont know your there either but either way your gimping ever so slightly your setup.
Well there you go, discuss if you wish.

No. The whole point of modifying local is that it had become, over the past 5 years, something it was not intended to be.

I haven't really kept up with every page of the Q&A threads, but they aren't really "removing" local completely are they? I mean, will we show up as present in the system after we've broadcast a message, or are they simply reverting to an ill-conceived default chat setting of constellation chat (have fun in the vicinity of Jita, etc., with that.)

Well wait a minute.
Doesnt it serve several purposes to have it as module ? to reduce the effectiveness of the attacker and also to have it as a limited time period so people cant lurk indefinitely out of local. To me this addresses the arguments in both sides of the camp.
Try not to derail it.

Kind of like Ghost Training?
I for one think they should keep local chat, in all regions. People don't realize that the option to remove local is already there. Just minimize the chat window and it's done. So if you want to play with or w/o local you already can.
Some people might say what I sugested will give the people using local an advantage. That is true however it's your choice not to use local.

No, they are not removing local. It is forum ***** ******s that didn't fully read the thread.
Local changes: Yeah, I actually thought that was so obvious that I didn't need to mention it. But yes, any changes to local will of course have to be hand-in-hand with changes to scanning mechanics. You must be able to somehow get quick-ish intel on the basic status of the system you're in.
Local: *IF* we remove local from 0.0 we would replace it with some other kind of intel gathering tool. What that tool is we don't know but we have a few ideas.
EVE as it stands now with only local removed will never happen because it is a dumb idea. --

I find local quite useful when you gank/ninja/canflip someone and they start emoraging. That way everyone else can see what an idiot the person smacking is.
