Is anyone interested in some serious tactical practice, so we can go into these Events with a little more organization than a mob?
Great Ghu, I thought Anarchists were disorganized!

Perhaps we might need to step up the actors training ;)

Edited by: Kropotkin on 02/07/2004 22:51:41 The Event in Pain -- call it the First Battle of Serpentis Beta Outpost in Pain -- would have been a very good challenge for a coherent team of players well-trained in combat.
For the kind of spur-of-the-moment flash-mob that actually participated, it was nothing but an opportunity either to be slaughtered or (for ROME, apparently) to pick over the wreckage from those slaughtered.
It will be interesting to see whether the Event-Organizers stage another such, and, if they do, who (if anyone) shows up.
I've started moving many of my Game-resources to the Pain area, in the hope that there will be future events nearby. It remains to be seen whether anyone -- maybe me? -- puts together a team that could effectively challenge the kind of defense the Serpentis team had in the First Battle.
One thing the Event-Organizers might think about is giving advance notice -- maybe a day? -- of such major events, so players have time to deploy resources nearby. It was clear from the comm chatter at the recent event that lots of characters were coming from vast distances, and the Organizers had to choose between waiting for them to arrive -- annoying those already in place -- and not waiting -- annoying those who would arrive in time to see nothing but battle's ashes.

Edited by: Xadian on 03/07/2004 06:52:14 That wasn't the first battle with those serpentis actually.
They (assuming that the same actors controlled the serpentis each time) learned their lesson from the battle the day before the outpost-slaughter, and instead of going for high dmg offense, they went for the best team defense I have ever seen in a battle.
For whomever was responsible for the actors training, you are a tactical genius.
Always hit the big red button whenever you get the chance.

YOU ALL stole loot just as much as we did, but then you go and blame ROME for pirating everything. You my friend need to get fact before fiction down phat imo.
Oh. BTW. The guy who was leading us SUCKED. "Oh I'm fleet commander of my corp." He really meant to say "I am leading my corp of noobs in noobie frigates against 0.8 mobz!"
We had twice as many battleships as they did and he wanted us to attack a megathron being shield and cap transfered by other ships. NICE thinking there.

This is a good point: I'll think long and hard before I follow Tche into battle again!
So: how to distinguish competent from incompetent fleet commanders *before* following them into the Fiery Furnace?
I suppose one way is the way I'm using: follow an unknown once, with an expendable ship, and put him (or her) on the appropriate List, depending on performance.
Be interesting to know whether Tche was just a player who lucked onto the location info or was an actor. Or maybe even (shudder!) an actor *playing*a*provocateur*, whose job it was to lure us to our deaths??!!
I just think I'll let my Russian paranoia simmer on *that* one for a while! 8-)

Yeah, I kind of had a flashback to that scene in the movie _Gettysburg_, just after Pickett's Charge has collapsed, when the Union soldiers shout at the retreating Confederat survivors, "Fredricksburg! Fredricksburg!" -- Fredricksburg being an earlier battle, in which the roles had been reversed, and the Union troops got slaughtered instead.

Well, I was in an event yesterday in Domain and there was absolutely no notice, which is fine. However I had just enough time to MWD through the 12 gates with my mission-runner set up on and make it for the beginning of the event. Being one of only 2 bs's escorting the target indy, after the indy popped, guess who got the fury of 2 apocs and a geddon's worth of tachs pounding his armor to space dust. I died quick considering my set up and that I was in a geddon, but it was good fun. Just wish we could have had one or two more bs's there to take some heat off me. More on topic I would love to have a kind of pre-determined structure and strategy to use when showing up for an event.

Excellent!
I count four, maybe five: Kropotkin Bigby (not sure of him) ElricUK Darth Revanant Damocles Ician
I just discovered this: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=83133
which I have started reading.
But it starts out saying you should get TeamSpeak, which I'm really not going to do, so I don't know how useful it's going to be.
I've also read Captain Wayne P. Hughes Jr.'s _Fleet Tactics_ and David Weber's "Honor Harrington" stories.
How shall we start?
I suggest we work out some doctrine here, then start with a little rat-hunting to practice our techniques.
Right now I'm only in frigates on this character; I guess I should train up some EW skills and start shopping for EW equipment.

We should start by all getting on TS , its not so crucial for a bit of light npc hunting maybe, but for anything else its crucial. I can provide a server if neccisary.
