Ok so here it is... I bust my butt doing a mission for 30 mins or so... I come back to salvage and it's being cleaned out...
Is there anything I can do about it ?
Also anyone heard of CCP doing anything about crap like this ? IMO Salvaging from a mission should be the same as taking from a players can...DEATH TO THIEVES!

Edited by: Sofia Kyodai on 31/10/2008 22:34:26 With a bit of search, particularly on the sticky about wreck changes that is in this same page - which you obviously didnt check, you'll see that wrecks are free for all. Nobody owns them, so whoever finds one and can salvage it does so. That is different than taking the loot from the wreck as this is a case of thieving, making the perpetrator flagged to you, so you can attack him. Sadly, this is also a good way to lose ahip, since whoever does take loot from your wrecks, will do so intentionaly. Meaning that his friends are nearby ready to kill you the moment you attack their gang member.
Nothing you can do about ninja salvagers except for 2 things: 1) Shoot the wrecks you leave behind if you dont plan to salvage, or 2) Train up for a Marauder and salvage on the go
PS: dont bother asking CCP about it, as they have already clarified this case. You dont own wrecks, youonly own the loot inside them, same as with jetcans.

THIEVES in EVE ?!?!? Anyway ill give you a tip that will stop these pesky fiends.
1) Get one of your mates to salvage for you or ...
2) Hire someone to salvage your wrecks, I do believe there are several corps that offer this service and are very reasonable.

Thank you for the response sofia. The search function on eve-o forums is crap. I generally don't use it for that reason.
Shame though about the wreck scenario.... CCP need to get a grip, the cargo is yours but the wreck isnt .... come on, thats like telling me the fuel in my car is mine but the car is not.

No, you need to get a grip. Salvage belongs to whoever gets there first, and my salvage-fitted slicer can get there a fair bit quicker than you. Hell, it can get there quicker than you even with the 40 second head-start you get while i'm probing you out. There are a number of solutions to this 'problem'.
1) Find a different mission hub 2) Go somewhere with a lower-quality agent (god forbid you should lose profit just to reduce the risk!) 3) Have a freind tag along to salvage 4) Shoot the wrecks 5) Ignore the ninjasalvagers (This is your best shot, really) 6) Don't run missions at all and get a proffesion that actually requires brainpower Most importantly, how are you supposed to tell whether this is part of my post or my signature? |

Your RL analogy is pure fail.
Unless, of course the car you're referring to is what's left of a car that you just blew up with a bazooka, one of hundreds of cars you've destroyed today. Little cars, medium cars, big cars. Buses and trucks, even. All blown up! People in them? Frack them! Now, all of their stuffs are yours. Wait a minute! Who is that guy ripping the spark plugs out of that car you just blew up? That's your car now. And someone is stealing stuff out of it! Can you believe it? In broad daylight, too! There should be a law against this sort of thievery. Where is the police when you need them?
Does your RL look like that? I doubt it. So actually, no. That's not at all like telling you the fuel in your car is yours but the car itself isn't. Not even close.

I'm repeating myself (from similar threads) but.. this is how salvage (of sunken ships) works in real life. You haul it up, it's yours. I'm not quite sure on the cargo (if undamaged by water).

You'd have given exactly the same answer a thousand times over in relation to the loot, as well; it does not belong to the guy who shot the ship/jettisoned the can, but to whoever happens to pick it up.
Then one day they changed their minds and implemented flagging. It's a certainty that one day they will do the same with salvaging; it's only a matter of when. ________________________________________________

EVE is a cold, dark, dangerous place. Can-flipping, stealing, scamming, baiting, etc. are all part of its charm. It's one of the things that sets EVE apart from other MMOs. This will never change.
EVE requires you to adapt.
Live with it.

And arguably....the rules on salvage in Real LifeTM are - the person who gets to a wreck first gets to pick the bones. Sure, being ninja'd sucks, but it's just one of those risk factors that make EVE fun. At least the Ninja Salvagers don't wait outside the instance and gank you as you come out like they would if this was WoW.

I'm not saying it's a good idea, or that I support it, or that it'll actually help missions runners.
Merely that it WILL happen. ________________________________________________

People replaying to this thread "this is as it is in RL" are really funny.
Eve is a GAME. Some things in it may work as they do in RL, a lot of others... won't. THe discriminating factor, the one thing that makes something work in a certain way, is how that mechaninc interacts with others into making EVE a good game, as opposed to another one that makes it worse.
Of course, it is not you nor me that decides that, that's developers territory. But since devs aim to sell subscriptions to this game, so they can make money, you can rest assured that most game mechanics are engeneered so that they satisfy a big chunk of the player base.
So, apart from pointless RL analogies, wrecks are salvagable by anyone simply because a lot of player find enjoyable the idea of "stealing" the wrecks of ships they did not blow themselves. There is a lot of ppl that zip through space every day looking for mission runners and the wrecks they leave in their wake. Devs know this, and have choosen to allow this practice.
Making wrecks tagged owned to the player that created them by destroying the ship would be as normal, mmorpg-wise, as having CONCORD drop out of nowhere within seconds with a couple dozen ships to annihilate a fleet who started damaging a stargate in empire.
This is a game, not RL. If something works the way it is working, than it has been deemed better to work that way.

fact of the matter is... jet cans are an expliot... they were never intended to be used as such large temporary storage devices..
if you wish to "JET" youre "STUFF" its considered abandoned. or so it used to be. just remember mr & mrs empire huggers, wreck ownership as you so badly desire is a double edge sword. or will open more cans than it closes if you get it.

Think so?
Then you'd better petition CCP immediately on this new item. In fact, petition them about every obstacle to your personal, specific enjoyment of the game.

Uggh here we go again. Your ship is a ship not a car. If you Slam your car into another Do you own the car that you Hit? Do you run up to the person yell I PWNT YOU AND YOUR LOOT IS MINE? then try to salvage there car? See how stupid that Statement was?
Now lets gointo actual Salvage. When you leve to get your salvager you abandon the WREAK! Yep you leve it to the Wilds of space to float free.
The Loot or Ligan or lagan is yours. If that is taken You can If you can catch them. you can attack.
So CCP dont have to get on the ball. They Have it setup. Its working. Its part of the game. And I fond it tobe a Interesting part of the game. And yes i have come back to a mission to fond nothing but cans. i have also come back to find nothing left. Course ive also Come back to station and seen a nlinky red guy.
So works Fine EVE is full of Fun and exciting things and One of them is Getting to your loot salvage before it gets taken from you.

Per GM Faolchu : Originally by: GM Faolchu Salvaging other peoples wrecks.... This is an intended game mechanic and is in no way an exploit. People salvaging your missions npcs or the player you just blew up are doing nothing wrong. The players are salvaging what is effectively floating rubbish in space and Concord places no value on this wreckage.
Eve is a harsh place you won't always have everything go your way, its a do or die world and people do what they can to get along. If salvaging some wreckage gets them a few more ISK someone will do it, it doesn't matter who just blew it up.

Several quotes for agreement. It is just a game. One that creates and alternative environment for people to escape into. The way the game works is the way the game works. I don't cry when someone frags me in Unreal, angered that it's illegal to kill people in real life. Heck I don't even care if I get popped by a gate camp in low-sec. I chose to go there aware of the potential risk and if someone does shoot me down, then that's part of the game.
Eve's game mechnics are they way they are. If you don't like it escape to a different world...
