so here I am, missioning, as all nublets do when they first get intro'd to Eve, but lately I have had a hankering to pvp, do 0.0 stuff, and get with a good group that's less PC, and more tight community, frat boy, beer drinking in character, but will fully watch your back. What's a good way to get your feet wet without having your entire hanger blown up in the efforts to find out who, what, and where to make connections in Eve that areof like mind? I really like my corp (fantastic group of folks), but want to dabble in other things too. ------------------------------------------------

Maybe I should have also prefaced that post with "I also don't want to just be a meatshield" :P
I don't necessarily want to leave my corp, as they are really great guys - what are the options, if any to stay in a corp but still run with a different group - alliance the only real way? ------------------------------------------------

Getting into pvp is not expensive, just fly affordable stuff while you are getting into it, finding a corp etc and deciding what you want to focus in. Most 0.0 corps and alliances subsidise their members pvp expenses very heavily, so even once you are fully into it and flying expensive (comparitively) stuff it wont be that costly.
As for where to go, try various public+recruitment chats (often given in corp infos) etc to see if you can get a feel for a group, ask lots of questions. Look out for corps that are more heavily in your timezone and at least near your nationality. A corps general outlook can be judged by its forum posting etc, though almost always in a bad light if you just look at CAOD. Check as many eve-related sites as possible, checkout corp websites where possible. Even just randomly ask people about their corp, most will be more than glad to big themselves up.
Smaller, newer corps are easier to get into and have just as much fun, but will generally have less support mechanisms in place for members. Bigger, older corps generally recruit by referal, but if you get in have alot of support and organisation in place.
Decide what sort of pvp you actually want to do. If you just want to do fast roams and skirmishes etc don't look at corps involved in massive lag-intensive multi-alliance sov wars. If you want to do all the "end-game" empire-building stuff don't join a small roaming corp in npc space. If you don't know which you want give both a try then choose.
The description you gave of the corp you would want is probably how most corps see themelves, despite the fact they are totally different. One mans beer swilling frat-boy is another mans boring prude. Its all subjective.
If you really like the corp you are in try and get it to change its outlook, maybe it would dabble a bit in 0.0. Or maybe there are other members who want to try stuff out, joining a strange corp would be a lot easier with a freindly face in tow.

There are always trolls here mate, so just ignore them. What I would do if I were you, is idle in the "recruitment" channel ingame, there are plenty of corps and alliances that can use low SP peeps who want to learn how to pvp. Wait around a bit till you find one you like, but be prepared to put some time and effort into your corp. You won't have any fun anywhere if you expect people to provide everything for you.

no offense to you, but those "meatshields" are already at a higher level than you. They have been getting a lot of experience from fighting GBC, Tri, and the other cool dudes. Im totally sure you wouldnt even be able to get into alliances like Razor or MM to become a "meatshield" in the first place.
There is still luck for you myfriend, there are a lot of other nc alliances (the lowerlings RIP HYDRA)that tend to be friendly towards newer people. Im sure you dont think you'd be able to get into an alliance like bob,pl...or w/e. Best thing for you to do is like someone else said...look at recruitment forums.
or join Faction warefare!!?
Damn i forgot- im supposed to be smacking the nc, not defending them...
nc you suck, die please

Faction warefare was invented for guys like you. Leave your corp - go to the station click the button and sign up.
If you do that for a month or two you will learn quite a lot about the basics of gang pvp in Eve, and its good preparation for 0.0 CEO - |

I appreciate the candor, but I'm not looking for anyone to provide everything for me, though the first steps along a new path is an important one, or at least tips and suggestions can help avoid a typical trip hazard.
But your suggestion to check out the recruitment channel is acknowledged. thanks. ------------------------------------------------
