Hey everyone,
In our political science class our professor asked us to post a question on a international forum and bring the responses into class. So what do you guys think being Canadian means? Thanks a lot for your input, I definitely appreciate it.
Cheers

Mounties. I used to watch Due South. I'm afraid I don't really know much else about Canada other than there's a lot of snow, and a fair chunk of the people speak French. Oh, and the stereotypical Canadian is much more laid back than the stereotypical USAian. ____________________

That you have a Canadian citizenship. Nothing more, nothing less. It's just as stupid as asking "what does being an Ottawan mean" or "what does being John Smith mean". Yeah, I'm sure, SOME people would go all and all about national/local/family/heritage/pride and whatnot, but that's just a load of bull.

If you want to get into stereotypes the standard Canadian stereotype is Hockey loving, slow, slightly wierd but not really bad. On a 1 v 1 basis Semi-American but turned 5 degrees off normal. Of course that's the standard Stereotype but I don't think most people take stereotypes seriously as a whole.

Hey. You should read my name. Because it's awesome.
On the question, being Canadian means being from Canada. Which totally beats the US, I might add, myself being from Wisconsin.

It means you have deal with all your southerly neighbors viewing your country as the national version of a suburb - a nice place to move to when you're tired of your own country screwing things up, and even though it's a different country it's not *really* (well, in the minds of most people here, anyway) ---

Canadians = Monty Python sketch ending in the Lumberjack song, the chaps in red singing the chorus. That's about as far as my association goes

Maple syrup, mounties, poutine, my ex-girlfriend, Yonge Street, lousy exchange rate, always rule during the winter commonwealth games and those crazy QuTbTcois.
My fondest memory of Canada (ex-g/f excepted) was when I was driving from Detroit into Ontario. The border guy asks for my passport, likely expecting a US one but getting Her Majesty's instead. He asks me where I'm from, I reply "London.". "Where are you heading?" he retorts. "London." I reply. He laughed for ages, gave me back my passport and sent me on my way. -------------

I knew a Canadian once. She was reasonably cute. She bristled at the question of whether she was American. I guess they get that a lot abroad.
