Ice prices skyrocketing, where will it stop? Why is it going up? CCP banning players, or more towers going up? More players stop ice mining because it still is very low profit? Speculators driving the price up?

I dont think its CCP banning players... I was mining in a system last night with 62 exhumers in the ice field with over 40 of those players named things like uqwjh, ajksy, nkns, o887 and other nonscense names. All 6mos> old. WTG CCP. I log in the morning to check on things, they're there. I log in 20 hours later, they're there.
Speculators? Maybe... if you were the macro mining king who could flood the market with cheap materials and then use the billions you made to buy up all the same cheap materials and just mark the price up 10-15%... hell, that sounds pretty good.

Edited by: Satrani Destiva on 04/11/2008 23:02:51 Skyrocketing? Where?
Back in april this year the price of "buy orders" for Nitrogen isotopes in Jita was at 560/unit. On sunday when I took a load of ice fuel to jita the Sell orders price was only at about 260-270/unit so you can hardly say thet the price is skyrocketing.
Check the price history for ice fuels. This time last year the prices were starting to climb at a higher rate than they are this year. The price rise will be due to more people playing and wanting to run a POS. It will also be due to more people playing and wanting to do pew pew taking out POSs which need to be replaced and so alliances are going to be spamming POSs again.
I ran a decent ice fuel business early this year until the arse dropped out of the market for the fuels, but since the prices are returning to a decent level I will be restaring the business to make a bit of isk again.
Your character has been about since '04 so you should have seen this trend plenty of times with countless different products. |

Ramp up for Alchemy, research needs for capital BPOs and other crap, sov changes galore, and prices were at trended basement as mentioned earlier.
POSs are popping up like fruit flies if you fly around and look hard enough |

People are stocking up for the expansion, mineral prices will go up too since big builders want to sell as many Orca as possible with the starting price.

Hooray!
Its my main source of income ATM, so I'm happy (My mining alt doesnt have a lot of mission running under his belt - still on L1 agent so I cant get high isk for that!).
Keep spiking that ICE price upwards so I can make the isk when I sell soon!
PS: I hate all the people who have created accts with the power of Two and are now jumping in the Ice fields with mackinaws that they have just trained and are harvestnig and hauling..... I've seen a huge increase (300% - had one person in belt, now have four regulars in the main belt I visit...)

When it gets to 150 k or more per cube, you can say "SKYROCKETED" untill then its fracking low at 82k a cube or about that...
IF CCP actually gave a crap about MM / Farmers ice mining would be profitable. At this time, its just side money while you watch TV, PvP on another account, etc.

Well it has gone up with 40% in like a month, I call that skyrocketing. I know it has been higher, and that it's still too cheap in my opinion. But the fact is that the prices go up and that's good for us who mine more ice than we use at our towers.

I will mine no hours and buy a team of people's mining efforts for this week :p
Yes, and obviously you stumbled upon one of the two reasons ice is actually cheaper.
- Longer cycle times mean more AFK time, means less time at the keyboard thus even though less an hour about the same per unit of effort. - Easier to macro (you always see the macros harvesting ice, because it's harder to detect with longer cycles, and the ice is always going to be there, they don't have to account for the possibility that the belt is empty.)

Well maybe I'm wrong but I see lots of miners around ice roids, they're just not selling at 78k (citadel) a piece and I completely agree.
I used to sell for 110 k few months ago or so and I wouldnt deplete my stocks now for any less then 100k a piece unless I have no money left in wallet which is not the case.

It'll reach 100k per unit within a few months of post patch as people throw up towers to experiment with this Alchemy system. At the 100k mark we'll see increased minining and macro mining to compensate for this demand.
Cyclical flux near Xmas will push it up higher, and we'll likely see a cap around 140k per unit (its historical average high) until such time you'll see a sharp drop in volume and prices begin to sink again.
I've been wrong in the past though, so who knows. |

CCP Chronotis mentioned something about the rising ice prices at the roundtable on Industry at Fanfest which I attended. Now, there was a ****load to be said at that roundtable, but I seem to remember him saying something about CCP pwning loads and loads of macroers, so there's simply a lot less 23/7 guys around now.
Balance is important, but you will always adapt to changing circumstances and you don't whine about stuff you can't change. |
