Edited by: Asika Kazama on 06/11/2008 01:11:00 Hi,
Could someone explain to me how this works? I read somewhere that if u have an offline module, it acts as a heat sync to soak up damage of overloaded modules. I'm just training energy management 5 so overloading soon. =)
Which is the best module to have offline, and what difference does it make to offline the module. Thanks in advance!

Anyways offlined modules absorb heat from other modules you have fit so you can overload for longer. Honestly though I would rather just have the extra steady DPS of another secondary weapon then relying on a little bit longer overload. I would never even consider sacraficing a primary weapon slot for it. _______________

Tech 1 items work better as heat sinks than tech 2 items. The placement of the item matters - usually you would want to place it in the center of the rack for best performance. Most people use an offline t1 large smartbomb as a heat sink.

When you say center of the rack, do you mean the center according to the fitting window or according to how they are displayed on the UI when in space?

Fitting window. UI has nothing to do with it.

Cool thanks for the replies!
So smartbombs are good because they can take the most damage right? Does meta value have anything to do with it, and how do u find out which modules have can take the most punishment? Is there a stats guide somewhere, I still think I'm missing lots.

The heat sink mechanic is actually not all that well understood. Epic forum wars have erupted over the efficacy of one mod over another and whether the last slot bleeds heat to the first slot.
Me? I have no idea. But I know there are no definitive guides. Go forth and experiment.

the efficiency of a mod as offlined heatsink can be evaluated via a variable named "heatDissipationRateModifier" or "HEATEMISSION". sometimes (!) a best named item has a lower heat-emission then the t2 module, but i couldnt find a reliable system yet. generally you use items that can be of use after the fight, like for example a remote armor repairer to repair mates who dont have a rep themselves or to rep your damaged drones. an offlined salvager is another alternative, just offline a web for example and you can salvage the wreck of your victim. to online a module your capacitor needs at least 95% of its capacity.
It's nothing personal. I just want your stuff, and more importantly the fun of the fight. |

Technically, isn't the fitting window part of the UI? Parrots, commence!
