Hi, as several spreadsheets and sites show me that the higher an added meta-level item has, the higher your chance of invention succes will be. I obviously want to get my hand on those items. :)
Some questions about this: - must the item added to the invention process be a Tech 1 or Tech 2 item? - when buying an item on the market, is it always the same meta-level? or does this vary? - what determines how high the meta-level is? - I need ofcourse meta-level 4 items, because that increases my invention succes chance dramatically, am I solely depending on the market? Or are there other ways to acquire these high meta-level items?
Thx for help. grtz Ma Mo

You can only add metalevel 0-4 items, but adding metalevel 0 is pointless, so you're left with metalevels 1-4 as useful. Metalevel 0 items are base T1 items. Metalevel 1-4 items are "named" T1 items. Metalevel 5 items are T2 items.
Metalevel 1-4 items can't be manufactured, they're found dropped in NPC wrecks. You either buy them from the market or you hope you find them yourself.
Example : Heavy Missile Launcher I = metalevel 0 'Malkuth' HML = metalevel 1 'Limos' HML = metalevel 2 XR-3200 HML = metalevel 3 'Arbalest' HML = metalevel 4 Heavy Missile Launcher II = metalevel 5

T2 is Metal Level 5 [ and cannot be used in invention] if you show info on the items for sales it will tell you what metal level it is - usually the most expensive in a group is ML4

Must be meta 0 (tech 1) to meta 4 (best 'named'). Can not be Tech 2 (meta 5) or higher.
The meta level of the item itself doesn't change, when you show info on the item it will show the meta level if it is > 0.
Meta level 1-4 are dropped as loot from NPCs only.
You do not of course need meta 4. As with everything in invention other than datacores and the BPC (+ the reusable interface) it is entirely optional. You may want meta 3 or 2 or 1 or no meta item. Their cost is based upon their rarity and demand, so often you will find that the meta 4 items add more to your invention cost than they increase your chance by. So you would simply be better off running more invention attempts. It will vary and depend on the item, however some have the same attributes as Tech 2 but easier fitting, or much lower skill requirements and so are often far more in price than the T2 version. Others on the other hand may be cheap as the T2 version is plentiful and far better.

Am I right in thinking that meta level 6+ gets you into faction, deadspace and officer territory?
Another pair of questions - I think I know the answer. Is using faction items for invention possible, and is it ever worth it?

6-14 or some number (not sure the highest meta) is faction/officer/deadspace/cosmos etc.
No you can't use anything other than meta 0-4 so I guess no one has ever worked out if it would be worth it.

Bear in mind that it doesn't matter how you acquire your meta items - you should always consider them as costing you at least the amount that you could have sold them for. Otherwise, you might find yourself needlessly destroying a potential profit of millions of isk. --- Can't afford that BPO? Look here. 20:1 mineral compression The EVE f@h team |
