Well this is obvious. If you did see it Im sure you wouldnt have posted the whole idea. Pointing your error there is called feedback

Going AFK is not really abusing anything .. its going AFK nothing more, nothing less.
Removing people from local chat will remove the effect they seem to have on some people and that way will remove your problem. Proove me wrong on this one...
If people are removed from local there is obviously need for some other mechanic to monitor your surroundings. Maybe something to identify cloaked ships too, but that all belongs to another topic.
Applying a fixed timer on cloak just gimps the ability to go into areas where you sometimes might have to wait even hours to make one jump. Actually playing with cloaked ship is already hard enough. No need to make it even harder.
So much for resting my poor fingers...

I think you unfairly belittled me in answering. But that's beside the point. Yes, I understand what the prefix macro" means, but from how he described it, I thought that they uncloaked once the person left the system. So, now that I know how it really works, yes, my solution would not work.
Apologies, I did not mean to offend, please forgive me, I wanted to be clear and did not mean to offend. I hope that you will understand that it sometimes gets heated in here! 
It's quite alright, I have found it in my heart to forgive you...
But on topic, as long as the ships which rely on cloaks to make them useful, i.e. the covert ops line, don't get hit by the timers, I think this is a good idea.

Edited by: Thor I on 24/11/2008 14:35:08 imo its not too hard to get rid of macro ratters: a) the cloak needs to be set straight b) the warp core stabs need to be set straight
ad a) not too difficult to find out which ships are supposed to cloak: ships with the cov ops bonus (u even get a cloaked hauler then) + combat recons / SBs + black ops. ALL other ships should either USE FUEL for running a cloaking dev, or should not be able to activate any offensive mods while having a cloak fitted.
ad b) same as for a; ships with warp core stabs fitted should NOT be able to actively use their weapons.
both mods on noncloaking ships (other than role cloakers such as SBs, BOs, (combat recons if it needs to be)) should be fitted for travelling purposes only! there is ABSOLUTELY NO USE FOR THE TIME PENALTY - these macroers have plenty of time (targetting and so on)!
i dont see y CCP doesnt take up such an easy thing; ppl are whining about the ISK-bay business, and about ppl sellin massive ammounts of ISKies via the intarweb, but doin nothn against it.

Edited by: Astria Tiphareth on 24/11/2008 15:08:42 Cloaks are fine just the way they are. Alternatively fix probes and cloaks together and you might have a workable solution. Cloaks are the counter to probes. Make probes and cloaks a continuum and remove local, and the problem goes away.

It never ceases to amuse me that this exact argument is the one used by haulers coming from high-sec, after being ganked by low-sec pirates and told they should have had an escort.
