It's not that simple. Battleships, for example, have an extremely difficult time killing frigates under normal circumstances. A small team of frigates and cruisers can easily take out a battleship.
Even cost isn't a straight line. Tech 2 turns everything on its ear, as far as pricing goes.
Why do you ask?

I'm wondering because I'm flying a Raven with almost all T2 modules and I'm just wondering what the next step is... haha, not sure where to go now :)

Well if you just like to run missions go for the caldari navy raven and aim for the golem. Golem is a marauder class ship which are T2 battleships that exel in mission running.

For anything not PvE related all ships are useful, but you might want to train for the T2 versions of the ship class you like flying.
I was thinking about training for T2 stuff, I'll look into it more now, thanks :)

Yeah, if you're talking about PVP, T2 is pretty much where its at. With invention bringing the price of modules down, anyone who's not PVPing in full T2 (meaning a T2 ship with T2 fittings, or a T1 battleship with full T2 fittings), then you're not going to be competitive, and in a lot of scenarios you'd be embarrassing your wing mates.
There are exceptions to this - as much as everyone hates it, the drake is going to be a pvp mainstay because of the speed nerf and its ability to spew missiles while being cheap and hit targets that previously would have negated its damage with speed. I like a hurricane, but post speed nerf, who knows. And T2 battleships are still pretty expensive, and don't offer any pvp advantage over their faction (and equally expensive or cheaper) counterparts.
But, the general rule in most serious PVP is that you should fly the best thing that you can fit T2, i.e. if you can't fit medium T2 guns, you should be flying an interceptor or interdictor with T2 fittings. If you can't fit T2 long range turret based weapons on a sniper battleship, you should be flying a HAC or recon ship.
Anyway, point being, T2 is standard in pvp.
For PVE, yeah, go for the marauder, or start collecting expensive mods to put on your faction ship (get a nightmare lol?) Or train a different race?
Also, to the person who said "Battleships can't hit smaller ships". Uhh, most battleships have drone bays. They may not be able to catch interceptors (unless they neut them), but most smaller stuff isn't going to survive well to 5x hammerhead II's, or (now that I think of it) cruise missiles coming from a raven piloted by someone with good skills.

A Golem or a Caldari Navy Raven. In the event of an emergency, my ego may be used as a floatation device.

The hope is that this will change on the 11th, however.

Yes, if you don't fly battleships with T2, or fly a nano-HAC and have a minimum of 20 million SP's, you are worthless in EVE. Not only are you worthless, but you'll make your gang worthless.
Pathetic
