First of all hi everybody. Iam playing eve for some days now (4.000.000 sp now) and i started as caldari. Well when you create your first char in eve you dont have any idea what you are doing .. so like me.
I got frigates and cruisers on lvl 5 on caldari and the rest in learning skills. Now i like to choose my next (or first) target in eve and i watched ALOT of videos, but i dont saw caldari ships fighting very often. Then i tried to fit some battlecruisers and for example the harbinger makes alot more dmg than the drake.
The thing is iam early in the game and it wouldnt be the problem to skill in another direction.... but i like caldari and the cruiser and frig on lvl 5 would be wasted wouldnt it?
maybe could someone help me and tell me with his experience how to skill caldari for solo // grp pvp. Or does caldari only have ratting ships? etc?
I try to plan for around 90 days to flight a nice t2 Ship which can fly solo and grp.
Thanks for your time Greets

Your Caldari cruiser and frigate Vs are not a waste. You can always go towards sniping with railguns on a Moa. Also you can go the route I did and be an Ewar boat in the Blackbird. Plus, you can skill up quickly for T2 ships such as the Cerebrus and Eagle.
Caldari does have good ratting ships, but that isn't all they have. I am in almost the exact same position as you, I have 4.3m SP and I am switching from Caldari to Amarr.
If you going for WTFPWNAGE ships in Pvp I suggest either Gallente or Amarr, but if your going for mission and such then stick with Caldari. <a href="http://rumandmonkey.com/widgets/toys/testgen/6199/"><img src="http://stat.rumandmonkey.com/tests/9/9/6199/25767.jpg" title="Griefer" alt="Griefer" border="0" /></a><br />Griefer<br /><a href= |

caldari CAN solo well, it's just that most they're ships are meant for gang/fleet warfare.
you mentioned battlecruisers, a proper Fit and Flown HAM drake will beat any other battlecruiser, unless you meet someone with a slave set (which is not often). (and even then you can still beat them )
caldari isn't seen in many vids because few people use that race in pvp, there are some though, and they're really good. it all goes down to knowing how to fly the ships.
when people asks me what race to fly i always tell them this: fly the race you like the most, i'd say all races are well balanced now, all races have good ships, and all have crap ships atm (true after patch/expansion too!) -sig-

Well in my personal experience when you are at 4 mil skill points you still have very little idea of what you are doing. The only thing that I know about your style of playing is that you might be interesting in solo/group pvp. And based on that and skills you have trained (caldari cruiser V) I would suggest you training for Eagle - Caldari Heavy Interdictor - an good choice for group pvp in 0.0
Also FYI solo pvp is considered travesty among more experienced players. The whole game and its aspects like pvp is built for team play: gangs, fleets, corporations, alliances, leadership skills well you get the picture

a HAM drake is a drake using heavy assault missiles, the general fit is this:
[Drake, 1] Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Damage Control II
Warp Disruptor II 10MN MicroWarpdrive II X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator Large Shield Extender II Invulnerability Field II Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Terror Assault Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Terror Assault Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Terror Assault Missile Small Unstable Power Fluctuator I Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Terror Assault Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Terror Assault Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Terror Assault Missile Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Terror Assault Missile
Core Defence Field Extender I Core Defence Field Extender I Core Defence Field Extender I
Warrior II x5
(needs +3/5% powergrid implant with max skills) add damage implants and such as well.
rigs can be changed for resistance rigs to save isk. (resist rig: 3-4 mill, extenders: 15+ mill)
NB: personal flying skills are needed, not just character skills!
ohh and for those fools who say solo pvp doesn't exist.... well their wrong (you just gotta stay out of 0.0 generally) -sig-

But with implants? i dont want to take my learning implants off ;/ or can i chagne them as often as i want? If you don't lose your head when everyone else is in panic, you are probably the reason. |

you have implant slots 1 - 10, learning implants take slots 1-5, damage implants, and fitting implants take slots 6-10 :) -sig-

If you are going to play this game for a long time and embrace pvp as one of its aspects there is a high chance that you will end up joining a 0.0 alliance eventually and will want to be able to fly a capital ship for many different reasons.
In order to join a decent pvp corp/alliance you need to be able to:
1. fly one of t2 ship in t2 fit.
In order to stay in a decent pvp corp/alliance you need
1. to be able to fund the replacement of your lost ships while staying in 0.0, until you prove yourself, make friends, become one of the team and gain access to corporate compensations (otherwise veterans may frown at you and won't take you seriously)
2. to be active (even players who proved themselves maybe kicked out of the corp due to inactivity, but they are usually welcomed back when they start playing again; also do not just disappear)
3. to participate in call-to-arms. excuses that you are ratting for a new ship or grinding standing in empire during a military operation may lead to you being kicked
So as you can see the main problem is not joining a serious corp, but staying in it. And financial base right now should be your main priority. Since you already so conveniently trained caldari cruiser to lvl 5, a good choice is to train a bit for raven to be able to do missions in empire or hunt in lowsec/0.0 just do not too carried away and get that Eagle.
Now that you are there in 0.0 you will better understand full potential of Eve and will be able to make a proper choice. Who knows maybe you have a talent for leading others and should concentrate on training leadership skills instead of capital?

great! i will play ;) whenever someone can help me fix my disconnect problems (server disconnects me).
offtopic: how long does eve need to response to a petition? If you don't lose your head when everyone else is in panic, you are probably the reason. |

To get money for my ship losses is the hardest thing. I made uncountable numbers of missions and iam alway out of money cause new skills or learning implants etc.
I maybe need to find another way just invention or something but i have to skill for that also ;)
So we will see. If you don't lose your head when everyone else is in panic, you are probably the reason. |

Edited by: Bladen Kerst on 07/11/2008 22:55:30 Invention is not a very good source of income if you do not have money and do not know what you are doing. And knowing what you are doing is whole other problem on par with not being able to replace your looses

Edited by: Malik77 on 09/11/2008 19:02:55 I joined a 0.0 corp only a month ago or so, and i have found ratting to be by far the best way to make money out there. But I do a little bit of manufacturing as well to supplement my income. Unfortuatly, ratting outside of 0.0 doesn't really make that much money.
Your probably better of doing lvl 3 or 4 missions in high sec until you move to 0.0. And since your doing them for cash, might as well salvage the missions as well. Some missions can bring is far more money from salvage, then the mission reward and bounties combined!

So we will see.
Invention takes some pretty good skilling up to get in to and get a decent success rate. My inventor does big ships, and with the 3 skills he needs for the invent jobs all at lvl 5, he only gets a 28% success rate over the last 900 ish jobs.
0.0 ratting will be fine for cash, as well as not buying ships that you cant afford to lose. You will want to have a lot of ships fitted and ready to go. Being a low SP character, focus on your primary occupation of pvp, and save the industry skilling. You need to get the core skills done to 4 or 5. Check out this handy little guide and use evemon to help make your skill plan. --------------------------
