It's been a year since the Trinity expansion came out with HDR support in the premium client. However we still have no official driver support from either ATI nor Nvidia to let us run the premium client with both HDR and Anti Aliasing turned on at the same time. The drivers technically do support the functionality as it will work just fine as long as the drivers think we play Oblivion instead of EVE...
So CCP, can you please have a chat with the developer relation people at ATI and Nvidia to have eve.exe default to the oblivion profile in both drivers as using nHancer/renamed exe files sucks? |

Yeah, good point. I don't think I ever found a way to even cheat this successfully on my 3870, AA is far too necessary and it's been so long I'd forgotten there even was HDR support tbh....

Create a copy of eve.exe and rename it oblivion.exe and it will work until next restart of eve.

Bah, seems antialiasing is broken full stop on ATI cards in QR.

Isn't the primary running program evefile.exe or something?

Yes, that is the workaround by tricking the drivers to think you play Oblivion and not EVE. Now if only a dev would read this and sort it out properly with ATI and Nvidia it would be much better.
Oh and I got AA working in QR, just had to reboot the PC after the patching of EVE before it would behave as before.

not only that, but I get way more FPS in oblivion @ 1680x1050 than in eve @ 1440x900 with only my ship in space. -----------------------------------

Probably because the x8xx series don't support SM 3.0. Sucks, but I haven't used such a card in like 3 years. You can get a card that supports sm3.0 for cheap.

I've only noticed that the cloak has wierd white circle things but other than that it looks normal and AA'd. But I only found out about this work around post QR. |

The cloaking effect with AA+HDR has been broken on both ATI and Nvidia graphics since the release of Trinity. At least on ATI you don't get the white flashing squares. |

I think half of it is CCP tbh. They say 'oh you can't make it so you can enable them both at the same time'. Yeah, that's why you can't in Crysis, NFS, MII:TW etc etc the list goes on.

NightmareX workaround helps alot but its a shame that CCP cant deliver that on there own. You cant build up your marketing on your new shiny GFX engine when half of the features dont work!

There is a working fix for this for the Nvidia cards. I've been running with it for almost a year now with no problems. |

As I said you can get AA+HDR to work on both nVidia and ATI hardware, both times it involves tricking the driver you play Oblivion. On nVidia you do it by using nHancer to set it to use Oblivion rendering, for ATI you copy the bin folder and rename exefile.exe to oblivion.exe. However on both platforms you will get graphical bugs while your ship is cloaked. On nVidia it show up as big flashing white squares, on ATI you get some interesting white blobs.
Now if you have a fix for stopping the graphical artifacts while cloaked, please share.

First post in this thread quotes a working fix for Nvidia cards. This is what I was referring to. |

That fix didn't work for my 8800GTX SLI system running Vista as the ugly white squares were flashing annoyingly while cloaked.
On another note, by looking at the feedback I got from ATI/AMD when trying to raise this as an issue I guess we simply have to send them a lot of requests so spread the words.

AA + HDR is not officially supported by DX9c. EVE is DX9.
Really not hard to work out why it doesnt work. And before you say "BUT SOURCE GAEMZ HAS HDR+AA", Valve use a psuedo-HDR technique, which is why "HDR" has to be supported by the map, and doesnt apply to all surfaces etc.
So if CCP had to add support for HDR+AA, they would most likely have to keep native HW AA (since rewriting with shaders would be pretty ******ed) and come up with their own "HDR" shader fragments, which would prolly cost quite a bit of performance. Either way people would lose and CCP would risk looking terribly unprofessional.
There are some ways to get around the issue, but you risk completely removing support for other cards etc if they were to do it, and usually it requires quite some effort to avoid having hectic issues. I however think HDR looks terrible so I dont really care :/
They however could release a DX10 client, DX10 is quite happy running both at the same time for the people running The Broken OS. |

Single 8800GTX on Vista here. Strange...

You don't seem to get the point: IT DOES WORK in EVE.
It just isn't supported, and so, apparently, works for some and not for others, even when the hardware and software are the same. |
