I was looking forward to using the corporate decorations system to match very nifty in-game aesthetics to what has been up until now an out-of-game ranking system for my corporation. Cadet, junior combat pilot, combat pilot, master combat pilot, skirmish commander, fleet commander, et cetera. I was shocked to find every medal costs 5 mil ISK.
As a corporate director, I demand the freedom to craft my corporation to my own image. Tacking this kind of expense onto new medals destroys my flexibility as a leader and a director and does nothing to enhance gameplay. If I were to pay the for any medal it would just backfire by pulling ISK out of what is a very delicate balance between my corporation's ability to earn money by moving equipment economically barren regions (trust me, you WANT us to do this) and to be able finance my PvP division. This is joe the plumber in space here and this cost for decorations means either a) the feature simply won't be used or b) any use of this feature leads to deterioration of _real_ gameplay.

Originally by: Dav Varan Whats needed to make this exceptionally useful would be the ability to design your own personal / corp certs as a lot of the standard certs are not that great in there choice of skills.
Theres room for lots more standard certs as well imo. One that blatetly missing is Jump Navigator.
Confirmed.
Trying to judge a pilot's readyness (skillpoint-wise) to be given a powerful combat ship is always a challenge and up until now I've encouraged pilots to provide me with their public API keys so I can craft their best ship fit in EFT. This is a lot of work for me and a lot of people don't like giving out even limited API keys, so in this way the certificate system is a great to quickly, easily, and effectively asses pilots' readyness to use certain combat ships or what have you. Except that I don't quite agree with the cert training reqs: Many of the more basic and intermediate certs, for example the cruiser-class missiles, require training in both Heavy Missiles and Heavy Assault Missiles to achieve. I don't want my pilots splitting halving their skillpoints by splitting between two different weapons, instead I want to guide member training along very focused very specialized paths. Certificates will let me do what I want to do if they can be customized and "show to corp/alliance only".

Originally by: Gunter Bahad Running lvl4 missions has become down right stupid.
You can barely kill the frigs in a BS before the bloody expansion now you can even take them out with drones.
In so much that I lost a bloody BS to them due to being scrammed.
I suggest the following:
- Remove Frigs from lvl 4 missions - Increase the damage small scout drones do to Rat frig - Remove the scram ability from Rat frigs in lvl4 missions - Increase the Isk/lp value so it is worth the time to bring people to help in missions since the current amounts are not worth the time or reward.
Until this crap is sorted out I'm sticking to mining sod this.
I fully agree.
I agree.
I further confirm this. Light drones exist to devour frigates and drone bays exist in battleships so that BS pilots have the option of including a defense against frigates in their build. You want that drone bay to be versitale: you can either use your drones for target painting so you can focus your mids on your tank, add ECM to your PvP fleet when you're short on EWAR pilots, enhance your DPS with heavy attack drones, give yourself a defense against smaller ships that would be hard to hit using your BS class weapons, or more. But that defense against smaller ships HAS to be present in this list. Battleships do not have enough intrinsic value right now to be useful if they must be babied by anti-frigate ships. I get better DPS in a T2 fit Drake using T1 ammo then I do in a cruise missile fit Raven with a comperable tank.
What role to light scout drones now play in this game if they are not effective against frigates? Why are you changing game content instead of adding new content? These changes are not nessairly for the better and people have commited ISK and real-life money (in skill training time) to your former balance. Try to be gentle when screwing up people who have paid you their money.

Edited by: Zeta Aece on 15/11/2008 20:04:13 Now that I've finally got some free time to investigate numbers:
Cruise Missile Explosion Radius: 300m Cerberus Signature Radius: 135m Onyx Signature Radius: 135m Vagabond Signature Radius: 115m Brutix Signature Radius: 300m Hurricane Signature Radius: 240m Harbinger Signature Radius: 260m Damnation Signature Radius: 265m Astarte Signature Radius: 300m Megathron Signature Radius: 400m Tempest Signature Radius: 340m Apocalypse Signature Radius: 400m Torpedo Explosion Radius: 400m
Cruise Missile Explosion Velocity: 69m/s Cerberus Max Velocity: 175m/s Onxy Max Velocity: 198m/s?!? (this makes no sense?! the tank is already _insane_ and now it's fast too?) Vagabond Signature Radius: 239m/s Brutix Signature Radius: 140m/s Hurricane Max Velocity: 165m/s Harbinger Max Velocity: 150m/s Damnation Max Velocity: 150m/s Astarte Max Velocity: 145m/s Megathron Max Velocity: 105m/s Tempest Max Velocity: 120m/s Raven Max Velocity: 98m/s (you're reallying going to bring a BS ship under 100m/s?) Apocyalpse Max Velocity: 94m/s (this a very harshly low speed...) Torpedo Explosion Velocity: 71m/s
For the love of christ, I am Caldari missileer not because I thought I could get ISK the fastest by choosing that profession but because I'm a U.S. Air Force guy and I legitametly dig missiles over the naval-like artillery. And now I'm getting shot up in the crossfire of what seems to be a huge 'punish the CNR carebears' bandwagon at CCP. Fitting a T1 Raven with XT900 cruise launchers, three BCUII's, decent skills and no drones only gave me about 300 DPS. This was already significantly lower then the damage other battleships are capable of dealing. Now my battleship class weapons cannot even deal full damage against battleships.
A mega with a T2 afterburner would be going 246m/s. With Target Navigation Prediction to 4, my T1 CMs would only wind up hitting for 39% damage.
[(69m/s*1.4)/(105m/s*2.35)][1]100=39.1489362 Holy ****, you can't be serious, CCP!!
And what if a lone T2 AB Hurricane were to gank me while I was traveling to meet up with a fleet:
[69m/s*1.4]/(165m/s*2.35)][240m/(300m*.85)]100=23.4474912 That cane whould shaft me!
CCP, tell me I am not making this calculations right!
Edit: I wouldn't even deal full damage if I shot myself!
[69m/s*1.4]/(98m/s)][1]100=98.5714286

Originally by: Raniel Etheren Speaking about missiles, I was thinking about their Explosion Radius: mainly for big missile with big explosion, the target doesn't need to be in the exact center of the explosion; it's sufficient that he's inside the explosion.
An example: a cruise missile (Explosion Radius = 300m) can damage a frigate (Signature Radius = 40m) hitting it directly or just by exploding near it. The only difference should be this: a direct hit, although extremely rare, it's a catastrofic event (I would opt for full damage) for the unlucky target; the other way round, a ship can escape the explosion by using its speed (like the current Explosion Velocity vs Target Speed damage reduction).
In conclusion, I think it should be better to keep more separated the to-hit algorithm from the damage algorithm: a direct hit should always deal full damage to the target (like a sort of "critical hit" but without bonus to the damage dealt). Obviously for big ammos/missiles should be quite hard to direct-hit small targets; vice versa, small ammos/missiles should direct-hit quite always big targets.
In real life, kinetic energy penetrators require a direct hit in order to damage or destroy a target, although a fragmentation bomb could deal some damage in a proximity blast. The only explosive warhead with a hint of vaccume-effectiveness would be a squash-head plastic explosive and this requires a direct hit. EM warheads could damage a target with a proximity blast as I imagine an EM blast could distrubute substantial photons or a very strong EM field radially, but something like a HEAT round would probably far effective at delevering a destructive payload of plasma and this also requires a direct hit. Only a thermal warhead could substantially damaging without a direct hit, as it could transfer it's heat via radiation.
Explosion radii are really just fantasy in general. There is no fluid to propagate explosions in a vaccume and you are using fields or radiation to destroy a target that damage decreases with a cubic function in relationship to the distance between the target and the blast, not an all-damage or no-damaget distance like "300m".

Am I the only one noticing that Ravens now have a max velocity of only 94m/s? I am very sure I didn't copy that number down wrong, but can anybody confirm seeing 98m/s pre-QR1.01?

Edited by: Zeta Aece on 24/11/2008 21:27:30 There was absolutely no mention of further reducing the Raven's max velocity to 94 m/s in Quantum Rise 1.01's patch notes. CCP, is this a mistake or are you really making silent balance edits? I cannot even begin to express how uncool the latter is.
I will petition ingame when I have som free time.
