well, after trying a couple of my normally MWD ships with AB's
i think AB need a bit bigger boost.
MWDs give base 500% my AB on my pilgrim gives about 155%
bring afterburners to at least 200-250%, only half a MWD value, sounds reasonable...
397m/s pilgrim is pretty ridiculously slow

No. Even at that speed you are still speed tanking missiles by a huge chunk. Avoid turrets though, they are uber.

Awesome idea!
Then my Vagabond will be going around 1,5 km/s with merely an AB! I'd be able to speed tank just about everything!

You see how that wouldn't really help game balance? ________________________________ All your honey are belong to us! |

to be honest havent really looked into the missiles that far, didnt realize that they arent going to hit something moving 1500...
dont fully comprehend the exp velocity to sig radius ratio

Basically your max velocity isn't as important as your velocity to sig ratio. Both tracking and missile damage takes your sig into account and using a MWD gives you a massive sig which doesn't help tank that much. Whereas AB's will increase your speed with no change in sig radius which makes it a MUCH more effective tool for reducing damage your taking. However the downside is it's slow, so dictating range is difficult and sometimes impossible whereas a MWD can dictate range(unless someone gets a scram on you).
Your choices are:
MWD: Range control and Mobility AB: Damage reduction and Scram defense -=^=- "Someday the world will recognize the genius in my insanity." |

Afterburners are awesome now. They are finally a viable option for something other than PVE.

I did a number of tests with my Crow earlier tonight. It looks like an AB is at least as good as an MWD vs missile damage often times. In fact an AB seems better at reducing damage from missiles unless you have Interceptor IV or V, and as far as I can tell is functionally identical at IV.
Worth noting, my Crow(T2 fit with decent skills, no rigs) probably can't tank cruise missiles for very long and definitely won't last more than a minute or so against heavies. I expect very bad things vs. lights.
Also worth noting, I tested HAMs, Heavies, and Cruise and they all basically doubled their damage at 690 m/s @36 sig(no AB or MWD) vs 1.7 km/s @36 sig(AB) and 4.8 km/s @108 sig(MWD) with the AB and MWD cases producing very nearly identical results.
If you increased the AB speed multiplier(even a little) it might make the MWD obsolete.
