While playing Eve, I always crash to the login screen. I can play no longer than ten minutes as a time. I also get the accompaning error messages:
'The transport has not yet been connected, or authentication was not successful.'
'The connection to the server was closed.,'
All my drivers as up to date, and after the drop I can still access the internet. All known firewalls are disables, although I do connect through a Linksys PCI network. Any information, or simple knowledge that I am not in this alone would be great appreciated.

Don't worry, you're not alone. I get the same thing using a USB driver to ISDN2 connection.
However, using my old 56k modem I was logged on for 3 hours straight last night (the odd bit of lag, but as I'm a beginner not too much of a prob).
It might be the way EVE handles the IO interrupts to use the IP stack. I'm going to try getting a terminal adapter and trying that as opposed to using the USB and see if it handles it differently.
I suspect that they have programmed EVE to handle ADSL and modems, and ISDN got left behind. Not sure about your networking and how it fits in to what I've just described.
Using the ISDN I sometimes don't even get the character selection screen up before it goes **** up.

Ive had similar problems (except for previous patch for some strange reason). Anyway I thought I'd try everything I could think of... Eventually I changed my BT Voyager ADSL modem for a Westell and the game has gone from crashing every 3 - 4 minutes to running perfectly!!!
Hopefully no more banging my head against the wall.

Yeah, I've got the same problem here. Had it since release.
Tried changing the prefs file... Deleted the cache folder. I've updated all drivers
It's getting worse though...I crash about every 5mins whilst docked....flying around doesn't seem to be a problem, crashing not that often.
CCP - Any ideas? Anyone? Please help, your my only hope (sorry couldn't resist)
Thanks.

Before the patch I didn't have any such problems, now I'm constantly getting disconnected.
This is rediculous!

Just adding a "me too" to the list. Cable modem here. Totally unplayable. Hope the devs can figure this one out soon.

Me too - running a D-Link DSl-200 USB ADSL Modem.
I think we're all suffering the same problem for the same reasons.
What is so annoying is that the problem can happen 20 times in an hour - and then disappear for a whole day (anyone noticed the problem seems worst over the weekend? I get more crashes between Friday and Sunday than any other day)
Let's hope the CCP guys see this post and do something about it.
Edit: I just emailed the support team regarding the problems highlighted in this forum thread.

Same here, 10mbit both ways.
Think there might be a problem with the clusters

Same here, when I finally do manage to connect I can only stay ingame bout 2 mins befoer I get dropped to the login screen with the "Connection to the server was closed" message. Problem started last night after nearly 3 months of play with no probs and now suddenly cannot stay ingame for more than 2 minutes. Have tried all the deleting cache, upgrading drivers, re-installing, with and without firewall / router and re-booted (and booted) just about everything I can think of but nothing makes a difference. Come on CCP get this issue sorted please...

Exactly my situation. Played EVE perfectly until 2 days ago. I could not play ever since and I did not change a thing to my comp. I tried everything, and I mean everything.

Edited by: Jarg0n on 17/01/2004 21:41:25 well i think we can safely assume 1 of 2 things has happened:
1) the most recent patch has caused more problems than it has fixed or...
2) one of the developers is downloading large amounts of pr*n through the EVE game servers

Same problem here, was working fine a few days ago, Have never had this problem before then last night kept getting kicked, with the message "The transport has not yet been connected, or authentication was not successful." have not got on again for more than 15 sec's since (just enough time to start up a new skill, luckily.) nothing had changed on my pc. I have now tried to connect to Eve at least 45 times and get kicked each time. have scanned my drives, re installed graphic drivers and DirectX 9b, have virus scanned the machine, deleted the cache, re installed eve. re patched eve, tried a different sound card. CCP have not answered my support log yet. Is this affecting anyone else, that up until the last few days had no connection problems?
Come on CCP sort it out!!!

in a way i feel sorry for CCP, they are probably trying to fix the prob as fast as possible and we're all moaning. they probably have been bombarded with support emails and stuff and are trying to respond as fast as possible (i sent one in this morning and have no response yet but at least i know it isnt just me)...
i think everyone should just sit back, relax, chat on forums and wait for CCP to set things all straight as im sure they will (its not as if they are doing this on purpose to make people who are paying them a monthly subscription to cancel their account, they'd lose money!)
*twiddles thumbs*
although sooner would be better than later :)

They could make a statement that they are aware of the problem and are looking into it.

Well I still have the prob but just managed to stay on long nuff tonight to read my petition. They have aknowliged my e-mails/logs and say I am awaiting my turn in a que so there seems to be a lot of us in the same situation but they are working on it.

Seems we are not alone, several treads with the same problem.
CCP suggested to me that it may be my sound card, so I have removed it from my machine and still get the same problem. Have only been able to log onto eve for about 2mins since 16/01/04 prior to that had no problems at all. do not think this has anything to do with machine or ISP.
will need to play reality for a while longer and work on that dish washing skill

Tried disabling game sound in prefs.ini but didn't make any difference, but for me the prob also started on the 16th so I assume something has changed at the server end on that date, as nothing had been changed at my end after months of trouble free play. Also tried the advanced network config tweak and manually entered IP address and port numbers. Still no luck staying in-game.

I wish the problem had been solved, and I wish I had read this thread before scheduling the cable modem compnay to come out and look at my rig.
Oh well, I'll let them come out and look anyway.
I am still crashing back to the login screen at an un-playable pace.
Does anyone want to compare specs to see if we can find anything in common?

I am having the same problem. I hadnÆt done anything to my computer but starting on Sunday 1/18 I cannot stay connected for longer than 5 minutes, most time for more than 2 minutes. I keep getting the ôThe connection to the server was closedö message. Since I have played fine on this computer since June of last year and have not changed anything I am lead to believe that the problem is not on my end. Funny thing is that my wife is running her account on a laptop also sharing the same DSL line and it is not having this problem. Nothing has changed and nothing has been installed between the dates of 1/17 and 1/18 so there is nothing I can pin this problem to on my end. I can log into my account on the laptop and it plays just fine so its nothing to do with my account.
