Why hasn't Hexite seen much of an price increase from to the new changes to r16 moon minerals? It's a reaction made of two r16 mins together, Chromium and Platinum. Both of those have seen price spikes of around 60-70% within the last few weeks and somehow Hexite hasn't changed at all.
Is this just an issue of market lag and lack of speculators or something else? |

Why haven't you bought as much hexite as you can and advertise it on MD? I recommend a sincere sounding post that makes it sound like you're innocently asking why this puzzling market phenomena occurs.

Not sure about Hexite, but I just made a nice profit off cadmium and chromium which I bought in large volumes pre-patch - still sitting on a canny few million units of cadmium and chromium too. Also got a nice stockpile of Platinum and Vanadium who's prices im waiting on to bump up a little in the next 48hrs.

Because the prices of the raw moon materials are only a part of the cost of the intermediate moon materials. Fuel is a part of the cost. Usually only one of the two materials is bought, the other is mined (free). Then, if there is too much Hexite to be sold on the market, the people selling it are forced to sell with a lower margin (or none or at a loss) if they are not able to wait better prices. A few people run their POS as a just-in-time factory and are money tight. So they need to sell the Hexite to be able to buy the fuel and the other material.

Because only CADMIUM will maintain a high price level (2.5k at best, not 4.5k like the high spike), CHROMIUM will drop a lot (doubt it will even be 1.5k), and vanadium/platinum will return very soon to rock-bottom levels. Also, the prices of reactions usually have AT LEAST a one-week delay PER LEVEL, since there's not enough OCDish people to keep checking all values (and then there's the "free minerals are worthless" crowd too).
P.S. Just look at Cristalline Carbonide for instance. Cadmium has spiked almost x4 and is stabilizing at x3, Crystallite Alloy hasn't even reached a stable x2 price level (it will take at least a week WITH trader help), and Cristalline Carbonide only rose up because TRADERS made it rise... if manufacturers only did that, it would have probably taken more than two weeks to be even noticeable... and it will take at least a month for it to spike and then stabilize a bit lower than the spike to the new equilibrium point which will be at most 50% higher than the previous equilibrium, if even that much.

Minerals could be free (because the Medium Tower needed for the simple reaction is able to mine the mineral needed). But they are not worthless. To be exact, the mineral is not free because you need to use heawy Water to supply enought CPU for the Harvester; but you would need to supply the same CPU if you bought the moon material and put it in a silo. This is because the moon material harvested is "free".

At current prices, if you were to buy the raw materials off the market and convert it to Hexite now, then sell it right away, you would actually be losing ISK. But because the Hexite that is on the market right now was produced at a lower cost, you don't see it rise in price at the same time as its reactants. It will take time for it to go up in price, as stated by previous posters.
