When my subscription runs out in a month or so I'm almost certainly going to stop playing Eve (unless I have so much fun in the next month I change my mind - always possible). However, unlike many people I will be giving my stuff away, but only to noobs.
Anyways, what I wanted to know was...
I realise you're not allowed to can bait in starter systems, but what happens if you are not can baiting but genuinely giving stuff away? Are you allowed to drop stuff in cans and let other people pick it up, without shooting them afterwards?
If so (and official clarification would be nice), I'm going to visit all the starter systems over a three or four day period and deposit lots of valuable Christmas presents in cans for noobs to have. However, if this is not possible then I need another way of doing it. I suppose I could go for a 'Santa's grotto' sort of thing via trading in a station, but the idea of actual presents is more appealing...
Is this possible, and what is the best way to do it? I've got about 2Bn in presents if I go through with it.
Ideas gratefully appreciated :)

No, that'll make it a challenge, especially if there are players near the cans when you do it.
Besides, you have no idea which character I'm going to do it with or when, so I'm up for the challenge if you are :)

After a Eve University demonstration in a starter system, I got the bright idea of giving out freebies. Brought in a hauler full of goodies for the new players, and attempted to trade them items in station, asking in local who wanted each item.
Almost no one would take the stuff. They're so damn paranoid I had people shouting in local "Don't take anything! It's a trap!"... even though I'm trading it... not jetting it. ![Rolling Eyes](/images/icon_rolleyes.gif)
Only a few players stepped up, and they ended up taking the whole lot. And I decided it wasn't such a good idea in practice.
Good luck. Sometimes you can't even give stuff away. ![Laughing](/images/icon_lol.gif)

This is because everyone in EVE thinks every free stuff is like an old man telling you there's candy in that there cargo container;
"Yeees. Little bit further, reach in there, it's at the very bottom, oh yes *ziiiiip*"

you will end up with a group of leechers following you around trying to pick up every can you drop.
go to the starter systems in one region and open a trade with each person in the list in station instead.
if you click on them as you go so their portrait appears you know who you have already given stuff to.

very nice of you I'll give you my suggestions,
1. don't give too much at once, 10 mil will give a noob a boost into his first cruiser (possibly a bit early) 100 mil and a noob won't learn about loss till he blows up his 3rd bc and goes 'wtf do I do now'.
2. sell all your high skill stuff few noobs can use t2 equipment.
delivery methods
1. just straight transfer the isk.
2. go through a belt ratting leaving the wrecks and putting stuff in/near the wrecks.
3. to find true noobs sit in noob local or help channel and wait till someone asks a stupid questions.
4. reverse of above, ask a stupid question wait for some noob to awnser you and you find someone deserving of a reward possibly.

why not create a treasure hunt for your fleet of noobs to go fly from system to system in search of your loot......each container could be labelled with the next clue and only the noobs will be told the password when they find the container.... a code could also be in the name so u know they actually found it....would be fun to watch a bunch of noobs having to try use their heads for once

I would not go for drop cans or putting stuff in wrecks because people will call "Exploit"/"Griefer" or whatever and make the whole thing a bloody mess of you explaining that you're not out to grief people instead of having some fun. It might also give noobs a false sense of security if they take from your can, ignore or turn off the "you're stealing" message and later fall prey to a can-baiter.
You also probably want this to happen without too much effort on your side, so setting up gazillions of passworded secure cans will be a bit of a downer.
I'd recommend doing some form of quiz in local where you announce the prize and then ask questions - the first to answer gets the item transferred by direct trade. That way not one lucky guy gets everything but your things get spread out some more.
Also consider that the new starter mission sends the players off to another system pretty fast, so consider staging your give-away there. I know it's Couster for Fed Navy Academy, unsure about the rest. The reasoning is that REAL noobs will probably follow the tutorial and disregard any chatter in local as they have no clue what it means.

Very true. Too much money can be a bad thing.

^^ This... or pick up a load of skillbooks and hand those out.
Originally by: Typhado3 2. go through a belt ratting leaving the wrecks and putting stuff in/near the wrecks.
Messy, gets people flagged, and teaches bad habits. Also requires time.
Originally by: Typhado3 3. to find true noobs sit in noob local or help channel and wait till someone asks a stupid questions.
Golden. Wait until someone posts "Gah! I just lost my cruiser in a level 1 mission!" Then give them a hand isk-wise.
Originally by: Typhado3 4. reverse of above, ask a stupid question wait for some noob to awnser you and you find someone deserving of a reward possibly.
Also nice, but will (I hope) get older players rather than newer ones.
